Really good detectors those, never false alarm. The click can be quietened by adding some foam in the detector, but you will need to change them if you want to lose the click completely. Hi and welcome The security industry was a bit slow to jump on the band wagon with apps and the like, but it has more or less caught up most of the main manufacturers now have apps. There is a signalling manufacturer developing an app that will work with any panel. Banhams are a NSI Gold semi national company which should mean your alarm has been installed to reasonable standard. If you really want a smart house with a bit of home automation then upgrading the panel using the existing wiring and detection would be the way to go. I would recommend the HKC app its slightly more expensive than the cheaper panels, but in comparison you do get what you pay for. Ive wired my panel into my lightwave RF system so can switch lights on and of from the same app rather than using two.

You would think so, and it did cross my mind, but I wouldnt dare send him there they are good customers, their average spend is £10k - £20k pa I saw it as cheaper to get rid of him legally

I have some customers rumoured to be gangsters, I dont know if they are and I mind my own business. They always pay cash and on time, they are always polite never use threatening behaviour. I make sure that whoever goes does nothing to upset them unless they want to end up swimming with the fishies LOL. They also recommend us a lot too, we did a CCTV job for a second hand car dealer they had recommended us to. I was told that the car lot had had a few cars vandalised, when I turned up for the survey two of the cars were still on fire.

If the Fire alarm has to be BS5839 part 1 then the connection between the two systems must be wired in fire tough cable, though the dialler will not be compliant

Depends on the size of the company, all expenses are vital when you are small you dont have the luxury of a big maintenance base to cover your costs if it gets quiet one week. I remember when I purchased my first company I was ordering kit from CSD to install one week so I could pay Enterprise and then I was ordering the kit from Enterprise the next week to pay CSD. I went with out wages many times to make sure my engineers got paid, but that is what its like you do what you have to to make it work. If I had a van on the road hired or on contract hirer and it wasnt earning money I would have been far worse off. I was lucky the co I purchased had four vans and engineers to go with them.

Hi Joe I wouldnt read too much into this, a small company expanding taking on engineers is a risk. It can be expensive without the cost of phone and van for smaller companies. When I first started as an engineer years ago now I used my car for a while. Now I own a business I also know what its like to be spending £x00, per month on a van thats parked outside the office because the engineer never worked out. If you are a good engineer it wont take them long to work out that you are worth the investment, and if you're a complete sausage then they havent wasted any money and you can be on your way.

Hi Gemma You could ask the agent to ask the previous owner for the code, though that panel is so old its most likely that it was installed for the owner previous to the last and never used by the previous owner. The code can be defaulted, but it is an engineer only setting. I would recommend you call the installer (the phone number is on the bell box normally) if the installer is no longer available then call around local companies you may find one that will be happy to help, I would suggest you have the system serviced at the same time as this would ensure the system is working fully and that the batteries are in good working order. The other alteernative is to have the controls replaced with something newer this panel is at least ten years old most likely 15 to 20 years

Call a couple more companies, get three quotes, a professionally installed alarm will be far better than a DIY system, it takes a good nine months to train an engineer to install a good system nicely with no mistakes. A DIY system is never going to be as good as a system installed by someone who does it everyday
