I have an idea it may be wifi only and not restricted on the lan, ill take a look and let people know

Newer models of routers have guest networks on the wifi, mine doesnt allow me to see my servers when I log into the guest wifi so I guess this is a easy way of setting up a vlan or am I wrong

The monitoring station is ADT so there is no way of cutting out the middle man, you cant go directly to an independent ARC either they will only deal with trade, and even so you would need someone to program your signalling unit. I would advise before you do anything rash that you read the small print in your contract carefully, you may find that you dont own the control panel and changing companies could end up costing as much as you save, as norm says it is worth going back to ADT saying that you are thinking of moving, this works with Virgin and BT so I see no reason why it should not work with ADT. I used to hate ADT with a passion, but as the years have gone on and chatting with the ADT chaps on here I have a lot of respect for them, its not them doing it wrong its everyone else, providing quality security with qualified staff costs money and their charges reflect this

So points1 and 2 may be hard to do in some circumstances, point 3 I already do, point 4 (and I know you havent numbered it) is there a way of setting up intruder detection and email warning if a windows PC is owned ?

This interests me, we used windows based DVRs with software and a after-market firewall/anti virus software. But this is a very expensive DVR in comparison top the cheaper DVR's we also install as budget systems. Most of which use a cloud based remote viewing software, I do worry the fact that there is so many of these recorders out there and it would not be hard for China to upload or write something into there recorders.

Csl Dualcom Cs2300-R Vulnerabilities
PeterJames replied to cybergibbons's topic in Members Lounge (Public)
With regards to home automation hacking that would really be down to a suitable firewall I think you have to see it from the everyone's point of view, I would like to think that most installers would use a decent bit of signalling kit to protect high risk property with value, and a signalling kit proportionate to the risk in all other cases. This is why we do a risk assessment, the value of the contents dictates the likeliness of the system being compromised. You have to also take into account that some inside information is needed before any attempt can be made, you have to know that the system you have hacked is the same property you are trying to break into, you also have to know there is not another form of signalling medium protecting the property. As yet I havent seen anyone compromise a system this way, just because it can be done does not necessarily mean that it will happen, in theory I could survive a bungy jump it doesn't mean I am going to do it (And yes I know millions do but there have been many killed despite safety checks)- 144 replies

Csl Dualcom Cs2300-R Vulnerabilities
PeterJames replied to cybergibbons's topic in Members Lounge (Public)
None of us are pretending anything, there has been and all ways will be ways around security systems, so long as the kit is one step ahead of the type of burglar expected then whats to worry about? I understand that there are vulnerabilities with some of the signalling options available, but I also understand the risk and anyone with any real intelligence are unlikely to want to risk their freedom for low value. On the other hand if something is worth protecting then its worth protecting properly that means understanding the risk. I have been in this industry for over 25 years now and I cant think of a burglary where any real technical intelligence has been used. Though I have seen many clever burglaries in my time- 144 replies

Much clearer, I was reading it as it could have been Rob was proposing it an example of what may happen, rather than an admittance of failure.- 144 replies

Andy can you clarify exactly what Rob Evans said? Its just that the above statement could be interpreted one of two ways.- 144 replies

Eurosec Cp8L Lcd Battery Replacement
PeterJames replied to chrisb70's topic in !!..DIY Installers..!!
Check the battery fuse and the fuse holder theyre not that good. The battery should be replaced every four years depending on use, cheaper brands wont last as long -
Welcome to the forum, We have installed the Gardtec stuff for some time now, its at our budget end and compared to the competition it is budget. I really like the new app for the Lightsys but my engineers dont like the Lightsys they say its harder than it needs to be to program. The quality of the PCB is not as good as the older Risco product but if I was truthful nearly all panel manufacturers have cut back on quality components, its the ever increasing demand for cheaper products by the Ill fit it for a tenner brigade taking on the jobs I walk away from. I wonder what would happen if we all refused to work for nothing and fit the cheapest kit?

Its about providing a professional service Ive had batteries fail 18 months on, I think Dom would be more interested in me charging £90 to go and change one six months after a service, most customers would rather not have the hassle of a call out than pay a few quid extra every year

somewhere in Hows your Mandarin ? You will need to be quite good cus the Chinese tech boys are not very good at English. They are a throw away product, thats why theyre so cheap. I dont know about you but my hourly rate is more expensive than the cost of a replacement
-
depends on the battery, our mark up is 50% on trade price lol
-
Im with Stu on this, and there is more profit in changing batteries every year than buy meters that tells you theyre okay
