  1. bonjour and welcome
  2. Why is it unethical to protect your customers? If you have lost the customer to the ex engineer why are you even worrying about it? The customer obviously wasn't worth having to begin with if they are prepared to jump ship to save a tenner. I would tell them the charge for defaulting the system and let them make their minds up. There is nothing they can sue you for, the judge would see it that you have protected the customer from potential sabotage, as their service provider you are obliged to ensure that there is no weak areas. The system can be easily defaulted and reprogrammed by any reputable company if the customer wanted to change service providers
  3. Well if unless you count all other forums copying ours

    Router

QFA on the Draytek I was very impressed with one I played with the other day. I had a Netgear foor many years but they have gone downhill recently Virgin use them and the VMedia forum is full of complaints. I am using a Edimax piece of **** ATM I purchased it for faffing around with at work but my old Netgear router failed so I the Edimax home. I may well buy a Draytek myself
  8. We have fitted the peco £10 mic from Norbain in a waterproof box, drill a hole and point the mic downwards. Works really really well. (Prices may vary depends on your buying group)
  9. Its the same with the RAC and the Water board theyre all subbies
  10. Fancy moving South for a pay rise?
  11. I havent spoken with Trevor for over a year now but I cant see why he would have the web site up if he wasnt around
  12. http://www.tillscan.com/ oh and great is spelt great
  13. What does it say on the card normally? I can never think what to say to my engineers I normally just end up saying "with luv peter"
  14. With the above in mind you could look at smart water, it could give an opportunity of you getting it back if the worst should happen
  15. Anything external grade, alarm cable would be best and a waterproof joint, the person nicking the dish wont be bothered what cable you use they will just cut it
  16. One of them was Gaz probably the black one
  17. There is nothing in the standard that says you must or must not have flashing leds. Most modern hardwired BB do have flashing Leds, most wireless dont. There are hard wired box's available without Leds. It depends on what type of intruder you are likely to get as to whether he will even notice if you have an alarm, a professional burglar will have done his homework, and a drugged up opportunist wont notice the bell at all until its ringing.
  18. They probably have a deal with the florist so it costs them next to nothing to do it Not very good if the bells are ringing and cant be stopped though, especially if its a panel under warranty No need to convince me, Im quite good at convincing people how good a deal it is.....if thats what they want
  19. Exactly £99.00 pays for a cheapo Lesucre £19per month pays for the monitoring I think thats good value if thats what you want, its certainly far better than a B&Q special.
  20. 14 years ago I worked out it cost me £32.50 per hr per engineer, I reckon its a fair bit more now, I couldn't afford to send one anywhere for free if I was only charging £7.50 per month for the system in the first place
  21. its not a trick as with everything in life you get what you pay for
  22. Its quite simple really £7.50 devaluations the industry, one breakdown under warranty and your running at a loss in the first year, two breakdowns in warranty and you may as well be paying the customer to have your system. Anyone that understands business understands that profit has to be made just to stay a float
  23. DMZ to the local IP of the DVR, thats all you can do with Technicolour
  24. Courses are not the best way to learn how to install hard wired IMHO. You cant teach lifting the right floorboard or drilling angles, or hiding cables, ect ect in a classroom. If I wanted to learn this industry I would approach all the local co's and see if they want an apprentice. You are willing to pay for training courses so I guess you wouldnt mind getting paid to learn even if it was a low wage. If you already have experience of wireless and CCTV you already have something to offer a potential employer. Depending how fast you pick it up you could be a good engineer in six months
