  2. You were lucky, lets hope your luck is the same when the cpu fails
  3. Couple of used 20 year old keypads that wont be much better than the one you have. I know its easier to just replace the keypad, but I think you could end up exactly where you are now after you have replaced it, only a bit poorer
  4. Good luck finding a replacement keypad they havent made those for 20 years
  5. Your gonna fit in quite nicely here!
  6. when was it last serviced?
  7. LOL he probably would have liked it there
  8. I wont make a penny from giving you advice, the time I spend on here is given up for free. Its not just old though its been powered up and running for the last 15/20 years
  9. Maybe they didnt think that one through completely
  10. Do you have any virtual guns? Its like most things, in its day it probably was good, most here would say the same about the panels we installed 15 years ago. But its tech, and its been switched on for a long time, the longer its on the more warn out its getting. Most of us here have been installing for more years than that panel has been around, and from experience we can say that it will go wrong sooner or later. None of us have a crystal ball, but we all have experience of elderly panels failing at silly o clock in the morning or the day before someone wants to go on holiday. You could just wait till it goes wrong, and hope it fails at a convenient time. Or you could take the advice of experience and plan ahead. Its up to you we dont care either way. If you do decide to upgrade you will benefit from better features like fobs, smart-phone apps, better energy rating, (the panel is using electricity 24/7 old transformers are not as energy efficient as the latest switchmode psu's) and ultimately less false alarms.
  11. One of my engineers moved to SA for a while, his first week as a tech (that's what they're called in SA) there was a tech shot by armed response while up a ladder fixing a bell. Apparently they all have jackets with a big T on the back to try to prevent them getting shot.
  12. Surely its not just the uk that has inspectorates though?
  13. Were the installers you chose accredited ? If so complain to their inspectorate
  14. As this place is full of installers I dont think you will have much luck
  15. Panel is obsolete, and I dont think it was ever prox, I could be wrong I was never a Menvier fan
  16. When I was 17 in R&D I used to work for a company that made surge protectors. the ones that go on overhead cables have real bullets in them, they are put together by hand in a bullet proof box with two hand holes with a bullet proof screen so you can see what your doing. They tested them in a similar box without the hand holes
  17. hi
  18. It hasnt been serviced since 2002, usual story new people move in press the panic button wondering what it is, then dont have a code to switch it off.
  19. I surveyed a system that I installed in 92 yesterday, I serviced it a year 93 later and the following two years 94 & 95 it was serviced by an engineer that left but is back working for me. It was quite weird reading the log book
  20. Hi Roger and welcome
  21. Its a 30 year old appliance that was never that good when it was new. If it hasnt been serviced for a while chances are the battery has died and taken out the charging circuit. Change the panel is the right advice
  22. We used Ditec automatic door controllers
  23. OP do you have a multi meter and know how to use it?
