Texecom Part Set with Entry / Exit
PeterJames replied to garnayrob's topic in Control Panels (Public)
dont forget to remove the foil now -
I dont think bell delay will work if you have not got comms attached, the panel see's it cannot send a signal to the alarm receiving centre so the bell is automatically immediate. In any case the internal sounder will also remain silent if it did work. Bell delay is only meant for monitored alarm systems, its intended to allow the Police to get to site before burglar realises he has been detected.

I remember being on call (a few years ago now )for A N other co, and getting a call from the operator someone trying to reverse call, I refused (as I was not the bill payer) I then get a call direct from a chap pissed that I refused his reverse charge call, I explained that I am not the bill payer and that I was not authorised to make charged calls. He then went on to tell me that my alarm was ringing, so i went to my keypad and then outside and said, "no its not" he said yes it is listen I could hear a faint ewd in the background. I said thats not my alarm? he said its got your number on it. I went on to explain that it has the alarm companies number on it not mine, and if its ringing then he should call the police as its a burglar alarm and there maybe a burglar. He asked me to come and stop it, I said firstly I cant do that because I would be trespassing, secondly because I dont work for free and there would be a charge, and if you dont like paying for phone calls you certainly wont like paying my charge, with that he put the phone down

Do you remember the bloke who was insisting it was his alarm and it turned out to be his mobile phone low battery.

You can send the ones asking for Nacoss my why if you like LOL

Must be the signalling, but quite often the people asking for the grade are not the ones that know what they are talking about, I tendered for a school extension a little while back spec said G3 the existing kit was G2, the architect didn't understand me when I explained that adding G3 kit to a G2 system makes it all G2 so what he was asking for was just daft.

Its an ID system not an easy panel to replace, unless you go wireless 1998 IIRC
-
Yeah dialers will be obsolete when they do the changeover, unless you plug it directly into the router

I was replying to SWB, (Which is why I quoted him) I meant that you had said in your original post that it worked on your old iphone. I was replying to this statement in particular

They said it works on the old iphone?

Does security professionals organise meets?

I remember that, I remember how everyone was fascinated one year by Richards Lotus Elise -
Do you reset pressing 5 or hash or similar ? it will be looking for a DTMF tone in which case it should not matter what phone you use. Unless the keys dont transmit DTMF while in a call

NSI have regional meetings I used to go to these until they moved the venue, I dont go as often nowadays, I believe that SSAIB do similar, we have on occasion met up for coffee or a pint at IFSEC but not regularly we are all spread out over the UK so for most it would be quite a drive to meet up -

Access control technician/installer knowledge
PeterJames replied to Cieska's topic in CCTV & Access Control
Understanding how something works helps a lot when fault finding, or even getting the end user to use something as it was designed. However, when it comes to card formats for the average installer knowing the difference between 125khz and 13.56KHz is probably enough info unless you want to write your own cards and fobs. -
Welcome back ......I think

Its likely someone will take the pee here but its banter ignore it. We almost encourage it here, not because we think people who come here seeking help deserve it, but because these forums would be very boring if there was no humour. You will need the engineer code to program your alarm panel. There are other companies out there other than the guy that fitted it (just saying ) Some companies will be happy to take it over and commission the work that you have done , ie you run the cables in readiness, they come along and connect the end up.

I agree but the only revenue stream can only be more sales, because once someone has purchased a panel (same price as all the other panels more or less) thats it for at least 5 years no more income from that customer. Most free stuff is to entice you to buy and keep buying, like the free gift in a happy meal, or the free plastic car when you fill your car with fuel 10 times. The difference between what the alarm manufacturers are doing and McDonalds is that Mcdonalds have weekly sometimes daily returns from giving away free stuff. Its not economic suicide for these manufacturers though, far from it because the alarm monkeys keep selling the stuff, but that doesn't mean they are investing in proper servers or rushing to fix them when it goes wrong, because they dont have to issue any refunds if it does, they can't give a refund on something that doesn't cost you anything. I dont use FB for product info, I use it to see whats happening in the jungle, and I can only go by what I see, which is the regular complaints that these free servers keep going down. One way I believe so

That would put me off, if your getting something for nothing that means somebody is getting nothing for something. Now you could say that well its only a cloud, but that needs to be kept up to date and working. In my opinion if it went down and they are not charging for it where is the motivation or financial resources to get it back up as quickly as possible. I havent seen many complaints on the FB forum about it going down, well at least not as many as the Texecom Risco or Pyronix clouds anyway, but that just maybe because the Scanny is not the weapon of choice for the £199.00 brigade
-
Stu Datafusion like Scantronic, I know nothing about the newer stuff I do know the original 9100, 9600 and 9800 were very good panels very reliable. I have a few Scanny takeovers which seem to be okay, we dont get much trouble. Detection wise I would recommend the Opex RX Quad, Opex only make detection they dont make panels or bells so they are expert at what they do we rarely have a problem with their quads, and FA's are normally environmental. With windows you would be better off going for wireless unless you are plastering everywhere, its hard to get a seismic detector to the best position on a window without some cable on show. There are very few keypads that are modern looking, I like the Orisec one but if its anything like the Risco one it will be pants. I have an andriod flushed into the wall on my landing, to control my lights and CCTV ect I have pondered with the idea of using the smart app for the intruder so it acts as a keypad as well but in fairness its a good idea aesthetically but it wont work as well as it looks. Intruder alarm companies have some funny ideas on what they think looks good in someones house, this is why the crap diy market is so popular.
