Electronics has a habit of going wrong and unless you check it how are you going to know if it works. But like most things people never do, how many people check there lights work before driving their car. There is a "Special Services" port on their hub which is meant for diallers and digis, but how well that will work, and what happens if the power is cut is a bit sketchy. GSM works on a PAYG SIM or some companies do have deals with service providers, if you search around you can get some really good SIM only contract deals

Just to add to my previous post I would in your shoes look ask for a GSM dialler as PSTN lines are to be all cancelled in favor of SIP by 2025 so you could be looking for a new form of signalling in a couple of years anyway.

Just out of interest why do they not offer to fit a separate dialler to your existing panel? Sorry if I missed the reason in a prior post. We have all systems on daillers down as audible only, so our engineers would not necessarily know they are there. However, we set the alarm and set it off as part of the service visit and therefore we would expect the customer to say that they didnt get a call.

The difference is thinking it is likely to be a false alarm, as apposed to its likely not to be a false alarm would make a big difference to the enjoyment of my two weeks in the sun. I have seen far too many burglaries, but that is probably why I have Police response and three keyholders all quite close, one is a taxi driver so he will get here before the Police . I dont think there is a limit to how long the Police have to respond, they seem to be pretty quick down this way, normally on site within 30 mins, we had one with 7 mins. Confirmed intruder signals less false alarms, and they are more likely to be the real thing.

I agree, however, I can only think of one thing worse than getting a call from the ARC to say your alarms gone off when you are sitting by the pool in the south of France, and thats getting another one to say its just confirmed. If you have Police response its a different matter at least you know that the Police have been informed and are hopefully responding. But thats just my opinion I would just rather not know.

If my alarm was keyholder only I would want to be informed as soon as it went off. There is not a lot more I could do about a confirmed intruder except panic.

The question you should be asking is why would you? The second question you should ask is why would the ARC dictate what signalling you need for a keyholder only system, when you are their customer?

Hi Bruce Welcome to the forum I am a little confused by your question though. The only reason the ARC would want you to set it up as confirmed would be for Police Response, and the only way you would get Police response would be if you are approved, and in order to be approved you should be familiar with BS and how the product you are installing works.

With respect we are far too busy we dont need someone to find us more work, when we are struggling to cope with what we have. Even sub contractors all have several weeks lead times. This is the one industry that is genuinely short of hands on staff.

He who supplies the kit is responsible for the warranty, Ray you do not have the original invoice for the kit so you have no way of returning it for replacement under warranty. However, you are responsible for your own workmanship, if you do a crap job with lots of loose wires the sparks has every right to charge you for return visits. In my experience I never charge the subby, I just never use them again. So the moral is do a good job and you have nothing to worry about and you will get more work, do a crap job and you wont get any more work and you might get charged for return visits.

Experience is everything in this industry, understanding what can cause false alarms, where not to point detectors etc and at the same time knowing where intruders could break in from, however unlikely it would seem. I would recommend that you talk with your experienced engineers, they can walk you around a building and give you some idea of a typical installation. Just be mindful that Area Building and Content (ABC) all make a difference to what protection level is required.

Charge by the day, although I must say I find it hard to believe that you had not agreed a price with the sparks in the first place. I also find it hard to believe that he has taken you on without first agreeing the price. I quote a price for everything before I do it and agree a price with anyone I take on.

You have switched chime on consult the user manual to switch it off, I am not familiar with that make but looking at the images on google it looks similar to the ADE panels try prog and then press numbers corresponding to the lights that come on.
