  1. Three times my domestic CCTV has helped me out, neighbors hit my car on two occasions, kids breaking into cars down the road came onto my drive and were identified. Three times at my business premises, mirror knocked off my car, kids attempted break in, and fly tippers here. All caught and prosecuted apart from the mirror the company whos van it was paid for a new one.
  2. I got a ring when it first came out, it wasnt very reliable, and the app drained my phone battery super fast. I sent it back and got my money back, I have a cheapo Chinese ring doorbell now, its no more reliable than the ring (on my smartphone) but it was £170.00 cheaper. Rings TV ad should be done under the trades description because they are no way that good, unless you happen to be on WiFi LOL. This sort of kit is okay as a gimmick but at the moment its not reliable enough. It will get there with 5g, but I wouldnt trust it to protect my house.
  3. Tamper dining room, either the lid is off the detector or the cable is damaged,it wont clear until you have fixed the fault
  4. EN50131 says there should be no visible indication to show that an alarm system is armed, so I would think it highly unlikely that it is in the programming of any system, even Pyronix
  5. Me too nothing like being 100% sure that the phone line is present and working and that you can phone from it. Its part of the diagnosis, and I would not be happy about condemning anything without being sure that I have explored all avenues. IA if there is a ADSL filter fitted you would have seen it for sure. Mind you if it is the phone line and they change the panel, and it still doesn't work you have one a free panel, they wont put the old one back as it will take too long (Lab cost v Kit cost = cheaper to leave it there) and they cant charge you for a new one because there was nothing wrong with your old one.
  6. Ive known companies like Banhams to write off the panel when something doesnt work, where as a small independent would try and fix it
  7. Some wont work without a BB filter........ thats a point actually IA does the line have broadband?
  8. As amps says this is the problem, the higher the resolution etc the slower remote connections become, in most cases several well positioned 2mp cameras are better than trying to cover the same area with one v high res camera. Rather than buying the kit yourself and trying to find someone to fit it you would be better off getting someone that knows what they are talking about to give you a proper survey and quote. it will be more than your budget though.
  9. The problem is Steve its an unknown brand, it is very difficult to gve an opinion on something I have never seen in real life. The spec doesnt give anything away either. Many unknown brands will buy B / C or D graded Sony chips and build decent cameras from them, they will use plastic lenses that warp making them unfocusable and cut corners in every way they can. The picture day one will look good, but it wont last. You are better off sticking with a known brand I hate Hikvision but I have to be honest and say its more suited to your needs, its known kit and it is value for money. Dahua is another known and trusted brand. If you want the better kit then go for Axis or Mobotix. If you go with something unknown you are taking a chance. But with Mobotix your budget would be blown on one camera. Hik and Dahua would be similar ish price to technomate. If you go for an unknown brand then pay £50 less than Technomates prices, but be prepared to be dissapointed
  10. There are many many people on Ebay selling CCTV tat that I would not trust to prop a door open let alone secure decent images. We were importing tat from China long before CCTV became within reach of price of the average homeowner. You could look at it two ways, CCTV is one tech that moves very quickly two years ago we were installing 960 TVL, last year 2mp this year 4mp as standard. Therefore buying cheap kit and updating it in a couple of years isnt a bad thing so long as you understand that it may not last two years. Or you can buy, the very latest branded kit but even the cheaper brand of the highest spec would cost more than your budget without the install price. This year 4k is the highest spec but 8k is already being mentioned when the rep comes round
  11. You would probably be better going for more cameras and 4 mp than trying to over do it with two cameras with some unknown kit. That said you would still struggle to get anything decent on your budget, unless you have a engineer doing it as a PJ. I would swerve any company offering to do it at that price, it wont last. With CCTV you do get what you pay for
  12. Sorry I thought you were joking, snatch their hand off because any pro would want £300 a day so that means the kit cost £280.00 which is roughly what I pay for an 8mp camera, so x that by 2 plus a decent recorder and a decent 2TB hdd (at least £60) what will you get £280.00 either that or the person quoting is working for nothing, Ive never heard of technomate so Its probably my first diagnosis. My quote for 2 8mp cams an recorder monitor to suit would be more than twice £580
  13. BT will be providing new phones to everyone as I understand it (I already have SIP at home and at work) https://news.openreach.co.uk/pressreleases/openreach-to-consult-communication-provider-customers-on-switch-to-digital-phone-services-by-2025-2507133 We also have customers that have already been changed over here in Sussex on IP/GSM signalling, thats all we are installing now no PSTN As a rule we dont sell diallers so for us they are an exception to the rule, ideally you should be walk testing and checking your alarm works regularly anyway. Electronics has a habit of going wrong and unless you check it how are you going to know if it works. But like most things people never do, how many people check there lights work before driving their car. There is a "Special Services" port on their hub which is meant for diallers and digis, but how well that will work, and what happens if the power is cut is a bit sketchy. GSM works on a PAYG SIM or some companies do have deals with service providers, if you search around you can get some really good SIM only contract deals
  14. Just to add to my previous post I would in your shoes look ask for a GSM dialler as PSTN lines are to be all cancelled in favor of SIP by 2025 so you could be looking for a new form of signalling in a couple of years anyway.
  15. Just out of interest why do they not offer to fit a separate dialler to your existing panel? Sorry if I missed the reason in a prior post. We have all systems on daillers down as audible only, so our engineers would not necessarily know they are there. However, we set the alarm and set it off as part of the service visit and therefore we would expect the customer to say that they didnt get a call.
  16. Ding Dong Avon calling....sorry I couldnt resist Hi and welcome
  17. Same as most people, nearly everyone installs the same stuff apart from the odd few that dont want to be one of the sheep. Hi and welcome
  18. I suppose that depends on where you live
  19. The difference is thinking it is likely to be a false alarm, as apposed to its likely not to be a false alarm would make a big difference to the enjoyment of my two weeks in the sun. I have seen far too many burglaries, but that is probably why I have Police response and three keyholders all quite close, one is a taxi driver so he will get here before the Police . I dont think there is a limit to how long the Police have to respond, they seem to be pretty quick down this way, normally on site within 30 mins, we had one with 7 mins. Confirmed intruder signals less false alarms, and they are more likely to be the real thing.
  20. I agree, however, I can only think of one thing worse than getting a call from the ARC to say your alarms gone off when you are sitting by the pool in the south of France, and thats getting another one to say its just confirmed. If you have Police response its a different matter at least you know that the Police have been informed and are hopefully responding. But thats just my opinion I would just rather not know.
  21. If my alarm was keyholder only I would want to be informed as soon as it went off. There is not a lot more I could do about a confirmed intruder except panic.
  22. Even the muppets seem to be busy fools round these parts
  23. The question you should be asking is why would you? The second question you should ask is why would the ARC dictate what signalling you need for a keyholder only system, when you are their customer?
  24. Hi Bruce Welcome to the forum I am a little confused by your question though. The only reason the ARC would want you to set it up as confirmed would be for Police Response, and the only way you would get Police response would be if you are approved, and in order to be approved you should be familiar with BS and how the product you are installing works.
