  1. 8 calls seems excessive Ive only ever known them to make 3 attempts, when it first came out we had loads of fails due to the fact that they were all factory set to call at the same time so they arc was engaged at 12.01
  2. My understanding of the PSTN shutdown will mean that Digis will not be able to dial a call it has the wrong technology of DTMF
  3. How do you know he has a Merc?
  4. But surely when the PSTN is shut down the digi cant make a chargeable call. In the op's instance my money would be on a problem with the receiver and not the phone line, although I admit without the full facts it is difficult to surmise for sure, it could be a dodgy phoneline or a problem with the digi.
  5. Just one other thing is the ARC using a premium number? £600 seems a very high amount, around 3 calls every 24 hrs, to a national number, even on a quarterly bill as a conservative calculation I come out under £300.00
  6. Please read carefully
  7. There is a problem with using lots of different brands, engineers have to know how to program lots of panels.
  8. I would agree with you on this, I have never had to tell my ARC what to do if they do not receive a daily test signal. The whole point of sending a daily test signal is to ensure that the signalling is working properly. What other possible purpose would it be for, I cannot think of any other "set up" your alarm company could possibly request. If I were your alarm company I would be very concerned that something that is designed to inform them that something doesnt work, failed to inform anyone. IMO from what you have said, it clearly looks like the ARC is at fault here.
  9. Sending an open aborts all intruder signals so long as its done within 90secs. So it doesnt matter what Grade if its sent an open emergency over someones on site in the eyes of the ARC. Its that filter line of wasting Police resources on false calls 4737 system, some panels failed open, there is nothing in 50131 or 8418 that says you should ensure that it fails closed either.
  10. We had this happen on one of our sites, the open and close signals work on voltage applied to close, meaning when the wire applying voltage is removed from the signalling unit it sends an open signal. Its a problem with older kit that uses pins, it relies on a voltage for the closed signal, the intruders got lucky by removing the panel and not removing the panel and the signalling equipment. We now make sure the signaling equipment on older systems is either mounted within the controls or, has voltage removed to close, so if the panel is removed the signaling doesnt go open. I think it very unlikely that you will be successful sueing your security company, the system did what it was supposed to do, but it was sabotaged. There is never any guarantee that the system cannot be compromised in some way.
  11. We had problems with Pyronix fobs recently, ours worked for the older castle and the hard wired products, but they didnt work for the newer Pyronix products. We found that another password has been added to the newer fobs in order for them to work. Maybe something Hik did ? We sussed the new password and reprogrammed our fobs so problem solved. We can now produce a fob that works with all panels which saves our engineers carrying loads of different brands
  12. No evidence of this in your posts. If whoever asked you was Trade and had the " Full Trade Member" in their profile they have been screened as trade.
  13. Haven't really gone out your way either.
  14. You wont get an installation manual here sorry
  15. Risco sell direct to installers so there wont be many places selling Risco kit other than Risco as far as I know
  16. you can search using your postcode on https://www.nsi.org.uk or www.ssiab.co.uk
  17. You will get a wide opinion here, which will just muddy the water, the better way to do this is get three quotes from local co,s I would recomend you choose approved co's then see what they have to offer with apps ect. Choose the COMPANY you feel most comfortable with, they will know the panel they sell inside out (if they are any good) then come here for advice if you feel you still need it. I would not ask a co to install a product they are not familiar with just becuase someone here recomended it, every time it goes wrong they will send an engineer that wont know the panel.
  18. It sounds idillic couple of hundred contracts just pop around and do the service once a year collect fee. You could buy a small co and set yourself up, I nearly did just what you are thinking about. I ended up buying something much bigger, but I often wonder where I would be now if I had gone down the one man band route. I turn over about 20 contracts a month and gain about 2 a month, sometimes I lose much bigger contracts than the ones I gain though. On a smaller percentage I dont know if I would have been able to survive if I was losing contracts on the same scale and not been able to replace them with new installs. You could always consider a business partner that installs. But dont make the mistake of under cutting the competition, you will only be selling yourself short.
  19. You have only made one post since you applied 4 weeks ago, (this one!) you need to participate.
  20. Sometimes fixing something old is more trouble than its worth, especially when it is obsolete and you can no longer buy new parts for it. I would recommend you get three quotes, I would also recommend you use a company that is approved by an inspectorate, and choose the company that you are most comfortable with. The cables will probably be fine so thats a big saving, dont buy wireless unless you think there could be a problem with the cables
  21. Id say you have had good value for money from it, I cant think of many 25 year old electronic products that people decide to keep going. Maybe its because I see so many burglaries and the damage that they do to people, but I find it really hard to understand why people scrimp when it comes to their security. An alarm panel is designed to protect you and the people you love from being burgled, or worse, so why scrimp, it just doesnt make sense to me.
  22. QFA but my Polish engineer loved Satel he kept trying to get me to use it
  23. Cars are hard work on ebay especially if they are popular with Asian/ Indian community. I sold an Avensis on ebay once and the amount of people that thought I was going to pay them to take it away was untrue I got hundreds of stupid offers. Some bloke from Ireland bought it in the end, met me at Gatwick and tried to knock me down, he had no way of getting to his next purchase so paid the full price in the end, £5k but even that was an argument
