alarm Calling all nerds and experts ! Please help!!
PeterJames replied to Marcous's topic in !!..DIY Installers..!!
Also ask for recommendations here, plenty of people here have there favourites, but regardless you will also know that what you are buying is likely to be reliable. Texecom is quite a well known bit of kit, we use one or two of their bits not the panels but what we do use of theirs is good and solid -

Its easier than try to explain how to check that theyre not open circuit. Although the fault was diagnosed as a cracked PCB the person who diagnosed it is an amateur, therefore the diagnosis may or may not have been correct. The problem could have just be open circuit tamper or PA, all along. But starting back to basics is the easiest place to start. -

Okay so the pair marked tamp on the PCB the pair marked pa and the TA marked are all 24 hr circuits these should all be closed circuits. To make sure they are you need to remove one wire from the pcb and meter set to continuity put one probe on the wire you removed and one probe on the other in the pcb. If you have continuity on Tamp and PA thats great, the TA is a little harder to test as its a tamper return which means it has to be powered before it becomes a circuit. The easiest way around this is to put a link in across the T and A.you could just put links in all three tbf. The spring switch on the main panel is also a taper switch you need to be sure that this is depressing the button when you power up. The keypad is the only other thing that has a tamper but assuming its screwed down tightly it should be okay -

We are unable to provide defaulting information, it could be that the PCB supplied had the engineer code changed already. Have you tried the default user code on power up? Its either #REMOVED# or #REMOVED# I cant remember its been a while. -

Scantronic 9800+ exit button problems
PeterJames replied to Clare Ibbett's topic in Members Lounge (Public)
Is the exit terminate button actually wired in? They havent been a requirement for some time now, and if the monitoring was removed at any time the ET button was possibly disconnected at the same time. Try setting the alarm without using the ET if it sets then you have your answer -
You need to prove competency for electrical works if you're going to fit spurs. You can get that from Tavcom too. You can plug in a burglar alarm BS EN50131 allows that.

Hi David Learning to install alarms is not quite as simple as most people think, a few weeks in the classroom wont really give you the understanding the standards. Mainly because the standards keep changing. If you want to just install burglar alarms and are not bothered about Police response then just do a course like Tavcom, this wont really teach you about actual manufacturers products but it will teach you about the items and the principles. If you really want to learn then the only way is to work for someone for a a couple of years get some experience and understanding. Engineers that have worked for me for 5 years or more are still learning now.

AC doesnt have the current drop that DC has, so it works better over distances

How old is the fob? Everything indicates that its the fob. Maybe buy a battery for fob one and replace it perhaps ? Flashing when pressed BTW

Easy check would be to down power three cameras and see if one works properly. Those cheapo kits on ebay are not really built to last though, 14 months is a good two month past the warranty period so you did quite well.

What brought you to the security industry?
PeterJames replied to grantc's topic in Setting-up Business Queries
I applied for a job and got it, it wasnt what I originally set out to to do, I spent my time in college learning electronics and after being made redundant in my first job R&D for an electronic co I spent some time as a postman. I then started my first business which I dissolved before it went bang due to the depression in the 80's and took a job in a plastic factory. I saw a job advertised for security engineer and took it, I could back then find a fault at component level and repair PCBs but I couldnt now the components are much smaller. I used to fix TV's and stuff all the time, nobody ever does that nowadays its far more expensive to pay a man four a couple of hours compared to the price of a new one. -
