  1. Sounds like the service timer is on
  2. Ta ... I got distracted Eastenders was on
  3. www.nsi.org.uk and www.ssiab.com these are the inspectorates for the industry. you can search using your postcode on the websites. My advice would be to pick three companies, and then choose the company you feel most with which is not necessarily the cheapest.
  4. Only people that work in this trade go around looking at bell boxes and stuff, nobody else does it not even the burglars
  5. Not yet, they work via a secure cloud. Its not impossible to hack but I am not so certain it would be so easy, you would need to know what alarm panel someone has for starters. With cars you know what brand already.
  6. Why not look at a system that works with an app on your phone, far better than a handheld button system
  7. Those that have complied with the requirements for trade will be upgraded soon, we're just waiting for the results from your stool samples.
  8. I must admit, the first 5 years my life was work, work, work, and I missed a bit of family life. I made up for it with holidays, and I did read my kids a bedtime story most nights though
  9. Nope, but assuming I had a bit of experience of running a business for someone else, I would definitely remortgage and buy another established approved company (from scratch) I think its by far the easiest way to start.
  10. Have you ever had to call out a trades person recently? Most of them are so unreliable its untrue, when you find someone that turns up when he say's he is going to, does the job as he say's he is going to, and charges what he say's he is going to charge, you tend to hang on to him. Personally, although I recognise there is a market for budget I try to steer clear it often costs more than I make out of it, and I end up fighting for every call-out, so much so I do not renew contracts on the customers that dont value the service I provide. We have mostly large domestics and commercial customers most who need an approved co in order to get insurance. We do have many smaller customers too nearly all of them recognise the value of an accredited company. It costs more to run an accredited company, but the benefits for the customer outweighs the cost, many people would rather pay a little more and have the service they would expect. Of course I am not saying that every one man band is unreliable, no more than I am saying that every NSI Gold company is reliable and honest, what I am saying is being accredited affords me to run my business to provide value for my staff and customers
  11. Sorry defaulting information can not be given in the public forums
  12. Some of us install quite a bit of automation and take safety very seriously, and some of us install a couple of gates and get to go to Italy for the weekend!
  13. Super glue 3 for punctures
  14. The mains is constantly charging the battery and the battery is what is powering your system, if the mains fails the battery continues to power your system. Depending on the current being drawn by your system and the size of the battery, it should last anything between 6 and 12 hours. Professional installers will use a multimeter to find out what current is being drawn, and calculate what size battery is required to provide a minimum of 12 hours standby.
  15. Why else would you have a battery in the bell?
  16. I am saying the bell box is designed to sound if someone cuts the cable. So if you remove either the 12v or Negative going to the bell the bell should ring
  17. I saved £400 on a new set of tyres for my car by simply painting a tread on the old bald ones. they seem a bit slippy when it rains though?
  18. Self actuating bell or Sounder if its SAS. The point is if it rings when you remove the hold off it is working as it should, Its designed so that should a burglar crow bar the bell off the wall and cut the wire it doesnt stop the sounder from operating.
  19. At the panel take out the 12v or Negative feeding the bell
  20. What happens when you diss the hold off
