  1. Not everyone in this industry is a petty criminal but I always find it strange when one of my guys wants a new alarm for his new house and he buys everything but the cable from me. Im no angel so I turn a blind eye but I never close my eyes completely
  2. Most gate and barrier suppliers will point you in the right direction for training. LinkCare I think even run their own training courses. Not really saving money by sending people that dont know what they are doing. Id rather put round pegs in round holes. But most gate and barrier companies seem to be too busy with their own stuff to want to sub for anyone else nowadays. Our guys are okay on service and maint and can install, but we regularly sub the install work out its cheaper to get someone that does it everyday to do it in the long run.
  3. My headmaster told me I was only good for road sweeping or dustman (If he could see me now!) I went to technical college, I wanted to do electronics but I didnt have the math so I did car mechanics and took the math as a secondary, passed and then moved from mechanics to electronics. I also went to night school (paid for by me) and I have always been able to do stuff because I have common sense which generally is not what they teach
  4. Yeah thats how the uni sells it as well. I do understand that the world doesnt owe anyone anything and if the government gives you something you should be looking to pay it back. Daves example is a good one though his school mate went to uni and now he is a Doctor in Singapore so is he paying his back? Yep it is like a Mortgage or extra tax if you want to use moneysavingsexperts view. My view is if its money you owe someone its a debt, and all the while the £ is devaluing (as it does every year) it wont be long till those perceived as on low pay will be paying their debts back.
  5. My next door neighbour at my old house went to uni and ended up working there. My son is just about to graduate but isnt looking to work in the industry he graduated in. I hope that that may change and I am sure he will make use of his £50k debt degree eventually. He is looking to work for himself selling stuff.
  6. If you wear expensive ship then they can foresee it being stolen
  7. When you press the buttons can you hear them beeping ? If the usual code is not working and the factory code is not working then its probably died. The link is the the left of the LEDs the other side of the NVM chip
  8. So are you saying that it wont silence when you enter the code? Try the factory code 1234 0123 1111 its one of those (it must be 30 years since I programmed a rascal)
  9. I am not even sure why you came here? you obviously know better than we do. Defaulting the panel back to factory settings will not fix your problem, it will just give you another one,you will need to re-program it. So ill ask one more time what is it that not working on your panel? What lights are on?
  10. Is there no phone number on the outside box? If not I would start by phoning the mobile you have and asking if they are the installer. If no answer then I would recommend searchin for a accredited company on the NSI or ssiab website you can search using your postcode
  11. Bonjour! L'amiral Nelson dort dans mon jardin
  12. Before you do can you order me an ounce of Moroccan
  13. I cant see that a text message would effect a dialler or any GSM device designed to send signals
  14. Sorry no contact details in posts allowed https://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/guidelines/
  15. Sounds like an expensive bh weekend. we (as a co) wont attend non contracts out of hours and if you find one that does expect to pay £2-300 plus vat per hour. Id advise cut the internal sounder wires and wait till Tuesday
  16. I wouldnt be attempting to default its unlikely to be a programing issue. It depends on your interpretation of reset and ours. What lights are on on the panel? Oh and btw you should be replacing the battery every four years not every ten or fifteen, leaving it that long will definately feck the the charging circuit especially if you are buying your battery from a DIY store thats had them sitting around for years and are not rotating them
  17. In order to help we need more info. What lights are on? What is happening not happening, saying that the panel wont reset could mean lots of different things, it doesnt give s much to go on. its as much help as your blurry picture
  18. Are you sure that the panel reported the batteries in the external sounders were failing? It doesnt do this for wired sounders.
  19. Press star hash or the other way round, once the panel is shut. as SWB make sure the lid is closed properly. The panel is 30 years old though so it may just be knackered
  20. Good point, well put
  21. What do you think it means? Think about what you are trying to achieve and then ask yourself that question again.
  22. Your question isnt clear but I guess you are asking about connecting the fire alarm to the access control to release the doors when the fire alarm goes off. To be compliant you should wire them in series with the locks not into the controller, they should in the event of a fire drop the power to the lock as default. If you wire them to an input on the Paxton and programming the paxton to release the doors, then you are reliant on the Paxton kit working when a fire breaks out which then means the Paxton has to be compliant to BS5839 which its not
  23. I think its a bit late now to encourage him to improve, I think you would have made a great teacher though.
