  1. But you cant one is cheaper than the other, in this day and age its the mat, but back when pirs first came out the pir was much more expensive. It is the same with 1 way versus 2 way one is cheaper than the other. I do understand the difference between 1 way and two way, but one could that really the OP should not be looking at wireless at all and should really have grade 3 anti-mask hard wired detectors with dual path web way monitoring and a smoke cloak. Alternately he could not bother with an alarm at all and employ a couple of ex SAS to guard his property 24/7. But my guess would be the cost outweighs the risk which is my point.
  2. Although, bad is not really a word I would use, lets put this into prospective. There are certain vulnerabilities to one way wireless, but with all security systems the total risk should be considered. If your property is likely to be of interest to professional burglars then this type of system would not be suitable. But I suspect if you had this sort of risk you would not be DIYing and certainly would not be asking questions about security on a public forum. Assuming that you just want to deter the local druggies/opportunist that would not have the first clue about security systems or their vulnerabilities then the powermax would be suitable.
  3. Hi and welcome Just so you know this is a forum, not a installer dating site, we do not encourage meeting each other here, under most circumstances I would say that it would be positively dangerous LOL!
  4. He eats properly as well, which is good, unlike my boy who only likes donkey poo and chips, Ive tried everything with him any tips?
  5. Yep any good company will be able to help assuming its not a lesucre. If a company is going to take responsibility for fixing it, then they should defaulting it and reprogramming it from scratch in the first place, otherwise they are just assuming that the losing company has programmed it correctly in the first place. Search here http://www.nsi.org.uk/directory/#topform or ssaibb.co.uk for proper companies in your area, phone a few you will find someone that can look after it properly, you will need a new battery and a service as well as the fault find, my money is on the battery as the root cause though
  6. Teaching your kids the essentials, I like it. Should keep him out of trouble
  7. It is easy to change the battery, the problem is, if the battery has been past its best for too long it may well have damaged the charging circuit. There is no easy way for you to check this without a multi meter and knowing what to look for. The battery will be 12v 2.1Ah or 3.4Ah either would be suitable replacements
  8. Its old but serviceable, they were cheaper panels but not as junky as many other panels out there. The panel being hot is another sign that the battery is gone the transformer is being overworked. ADE sold to Honeywell a few years back. How do you know the external sounder is dead? Though it does sound like its very old, still on the up side the wiring is all in place.
  9. Hi Adam 10-15 years Not much electricity, much less than your fridge Not sure what you mean by getting it removed people pay hundreds of £'s to have security in their house why would you want to remove it? ADE The detection and ancillaries would be compatible with many hard wired alarm systems available on the market today The keypad is saying that everything is fine, the noise you can hear from the main box is the transformer. I would advise that you get the system serviced, the person servicing it should be able to default the codes and show you how to reprogram a new one, depending on the last time it was serviced it may need a new battery, the fact that it is showing day and power is good, the transformer noise could be that the battery is drawing too much current, or it may just be a noisy transformer, hard to tell remotely. Alternately you could just ask someone to quote to update the system.
  10. Security systems wont stop people breaking in to steal stuff they will just detect them once they are in, and a professionally installed system is unlikely to be easily compromised. Ultimately it is down to risk, the type of burglar you are likely to get depends very much on the theft attractiveness of the stock or property. Why would an intelligent person risk getting caught for little reward, therefore in most cases your average house is unlikely to be targeted by anything other than opportunists and small time thief's. When it comes to high risk properties you will find stuff like smoke cloak, and anti mask detection, this makes it tricky for even the bloke who installed it to get around. Its not quite the same as it is on the telly
  11. You didnt say anything ....I did
  12. Merry Xmas, wireless pirs are not that good with active cats, if its a slow old cat you might be okay depending on where you place the detectors. Ideally you need to use proper pet tolerant detectors like the bosch bluelines (hard wired only) either that or just fit wireless shocks on all the windows.
  13. Normaly there will be a back tamper (A switch that becomes open when the bell box is pulled from the wall) and a lid tamper this is sometimes on the screw that holds the lid on, sometimes its a spring that becomes open when the lid is removed or opened. Normally the switch requires a little adjustment to make sure that it is closed properly when the BB is screwed to the wall or when the lid is closed .
  14. If you wired it the same as the old one and none of the fuses have blown then its most likely the tamper switch on the BB is not seated correctly
  15. For your area Matt the Police urn will be about £55 monitoring digi you should charge around £200.00 GSM £250.00 and dualpath £350.00 and charge at least £150 for the comms equipment
  16. Bonjour
  17. ola
  18. Without motivation we would all be on benefits
  19. As far as I know they are not selling to diyers, they dont want to support them, very sensible if you ask me. You can buy the Irish version on ebay but its not the same as the UK version.
  20. HKC isnt really DIY though is it Imran
  21. Everyone needs a bit of motivation Steve without it the benefit system would fall over
  22. Thats because there is no badges with SSAIB and I see the badge as recognition, being recognised motivates me
  23. Still need some sort of recognition for being the best, I am sure there are some very good non accredited installers out there that never will bother with accreditation what is their motivation? My motivation is to be the best and have the highest level accreditation, I know that I get work purely because some customers would only use a company with the highest level, but without the badge how would they know? And dislike champagne or not, it is still regarded as the best which is my point. Its not my cup of tea either but its the first analogy that popped into my head. I could have used cream and milk, or chocolate and candy, or cods roe and those other fish eggs, ect ect ect. Not that I have to justify myself to you or anyone else on the forum!
  24. Its not about badges its about customers identifying the accreditation without having to ask or make their own investigations. Its the difference between Champagne and sparkling wine, even though some sparkling wines are very good, you know for sure that Champagne is the best.
  25. That seems a bit daft you would think that they would give it some sort of premium name otherwise where is the motivation for doing it.
