  1. I don't believe this is the case any more. I have used this for EOL wiring. Well, intruder alarms aren't exactly designed to be fire alarms. It's normally best to fit mains interlinked in this situation. Don't get me wrong they work well but it's not the best method for quite a few reasons. Hence comments above...
  2. Your panel doesn't use EOL resistors. Connect A&B to your zone. Program your zone for Fire. Check it works. Is there a reason you have chosen an Exodus instead of other options?

  5. You may well be right. Galaxy is not my choice of panel, this task on a Premier easily done.
  6. I assume it's a sounder triggered off an output? A speaker driven from the speaker terminals should sound immediately.
  7. I remembered a friend of mine has a Netgear Genie router, looks like I'll be ordering another Draytek if a patch isn't released sharpish. May even persuade him to pay the extra for a rack mount kit and stick it in the AV rack. A quick temporary fix is to disable WAN management, PITA if you need to remote in.
  8. Worth checking if this vulnerability affects any of your sites. "As a result, affected devices can be interrogated and hijacked with as little as a well placed HTTP query." Article http://www.net-security.org/secworld.php?id=17959 Geek Info http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2015/Feb/56
  9. Please don't post twice a mod will move it if necessary. You will need to get your post count to 5 before people can contact you.
  10. We are good like that here.
  11. One more post and your PM service will be available.
  12. That is often a mistake customers make, underground lines are just as easy to cut; sometimes easier. Plus if the line is engaged it's useless, then there is hoping that the TAP server isn't down or engaged at the time of the message. TAP may work fine but it's not to be relied upon. If you want to be notified 24/7 choose something other than private reporting.
  13. If TAP text messaging, I wouldn't call it "signalling" at all. Certainly not to be used if you want reliable messages.
  14. Ciao
  15. Windows 10 free for RPi2 http://dev.windows.com/en-us/featured/raspberrypi2support Interesting strategy.
  16. They aren't it's just what your local security companies are using. Premier and Galaxy are probably the two most popular panels. As for your arguments towards becoming a security company, it's no laughing matter. There are lots on here that are unhappy with the way the industry is heading, most customers want stuff for buttons. Companies here are having to branch into other things. Security regs are equally as complicated and get there goal posts get moved every few years. The industry has lost most of the domestic market due to DIY/consumer tech/handyman fitting systems for buttons. Potential customers want "an alarm" or " a CCTV system", they don't consider the difference in quality of a professionally fitted system. I would we suffer a lot more heavily from "one man bands", approved companies work to a standard and pay to be audited. This allows anyone to easily undercut you on systems by ignoring the standards. (I must also point out there are non-approved companies that are professional and there are approved companies that install poorly). Yes, I agree you have your reoccurring maintenance, if you have a good estate, which keeps most companies afloat. Do you not arrange to check electrical installations every 4 years anyway? I am not trying to put you off, I wish you well. I am just pointing out it's not as easy over here as many seem to assume. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
  17. There isn't an easy answer to "which panel". It's personal choice, most companies specialize in a couple that cover all budgets. Most of the panels you have listed are in the lower end of the market. If you are looking at sticking to a manufacturer use one with a range of panels IMO, Texecom Premier or Galaxy are popular and offer different size systems with not much difference, if any, in menu structure. As for moving from electrical to security, I wouldn't bother there's nothing special your missing out on.

  19. Picture of the door? How is the door locked at the moment? As an aside have you ever had the system serviced?
  20. Just get Wintex to work on Linux natively and you (and everyone else) can bin Windows off completely
  21. Yuk, Windoze. TBH looking at the screenshots it's got more of a desktop feel about it over W8, which I would prefer.
  22. You have a tamper fault on at least one device. This is a simple parallel and series issue. Series means open one and there is a tamper, parallel means you have to open all tampers to get a tamper. Obviously tampers should be in series to work correctly. Do as above to find the device in question.
  23. The OP said there are neighbours. Obviously a bell only system is just that, bells only. Comms would offer more security but it depends on the risk/budget.
