Mains failure tones volume on Veritas R8
sixwheeledbeast replied to SleepyShaws's topic in Control Panels (Public)
Why have a working systems at all if you just consider them a deterrent? Nobody said anything about a fortress, but all about layers some things maybe simple. Security is a balance of cost over risk, not using what you have paid for to it's full potential is a waste of money while not fully decreasing your risk. At the end of the day it's your decision, but just consider the years of experience put behind the advice given above, people always seem to re-evaluate after the horse has bolted. -
Mains failure tones volume on Veritas R8

One thing I can guarantee is there are plenty of systems out there installed but never serviced, just waiting for a power outage to annoy other neighbours across the country. If your very unlucky, it doesn't stop and your away; expect the local authority to force entry and leave you a bill for silencing it on your behalf. In addition to above post, I know of issues where insurance would not pay out due to the customer being in the garden during a forced entry at the opposite side of the house while alarm not armed. They often prefer breaking in to occupied houses as they have knowledge of where you are, less chance of surprises. -

Your alarm shouldn't sound outside if the power fails if it does there's something wrong with it, you can explain that to your neighbours too. -
Mains failure tones volume on Veritas R8

So I would say you should part set the system. There is no engineer "function code" to switch it off. As I say it's a basic panel, see the rest of my post above for options. The chime on mains fail is two upwards tones very similar to the chime sound. Systems would usually be recommended for full operation checks every 12 months. -

It's a feature of the later Veritas versions, older versions without this I have known to completely drain the battery out, with nobody noticing if the mains is disconnected by accident or whatever. It won't beep if the system is set as above so you could set the system omitting all the zones (including 0) if you want to walk around the house. There is also a pot on the board to reduce advisory notes, not sure if this mains fail beep is considered "advisory" on an R8, but this will lower your entry exit notes too. Disconnecting the speaker isn't an option it's likely the only thing that will make a sound in a break in, hopefully the outside box works but that's a whole other question if it's not been maintained. It is a basic panel so expect to compromise, how often do you have a power cut to bother worrying about it is the question? -

Risco being Risco? You could try a power cycle if you have the confidence to reprogram everything if it does wrong. Best option would be to get someone that knows Risco to sort it out. -
Wireless External Siren, but cabled to electric supply

No idea I remember a model with a small transformer inside you wired flex to em. PITA. -
Panel will lockout if in tamper, you need to disconnect the PIR's panel end and close the tamper loop up then it should clear.

You would just use a wired one and wire it to the panel or an expander. Visonic used to have a mains powered bell. -
Like many things in life they have many names. This topic has two names due to it being split... "Trump" COVID-19 ... Wuhan pneumonia ... SARS-COV2 ... nCOV19 All of the news in America have been calling it Wuhan Flu and Chinese Coronavirus for the last view months, if Trump changes his tune now they think it's something else...

Democracy is all about keeping as many people happy as possible, we have arguably a better system over here. We vote in representatives that we believe align with our view of fairness and they discuss and vote on topics and if required provide regulations and a small amount of laws to keep the majority consistent. Over there they have the Amendments these are impossible to change this means more of there systems start to be proped up with law which is a less ideal way to solve democratic issues it divides more people. Being impeached wouldn't help IMO it would just mean they have an angry snake in office with no venom. Even then it's down to a vote at the Senate a long winded process from what I gather. You also have the issue that when things become dealt with by law they are often the person with the best legal team that wins not necessarily the outcome the majority would want.

Vietnam War? London Plague? Spanish Flu? It's pretty normal to have these colloquial names for things. Obviously there's some Chinese agenda with Trump but even so it's nothing compared to the Italian Northern Leagues comments

He's not declared a war yet and been the first President to step into North Korea... The guy seems like a slimeball but in a world that continues to become some twisted popularity contest he's playing the game well.

£10 and a free milkybar? -
It's all relevant ... I have never seen a toilet bush with a degree in economics, or one worth $3 billion. If you agree with his politics and agendas is a whole other topic. As I always say, use the correct tool for the job. A toilet brush will be much more successful at removing limescale from round the rim than speaking it's mind to 308 million people and Trump vice versa.

Panel Output > Output 1 > Area Type > Alarm > Area > Skip through the Attributes if you don't need them

Certainly wouldn't recommend buying an expander card for such an old panel, but that's up to you. I am all for good well maintained systems avoiding the e-waste but throwing decent money at obsolete kit is where I'd draw the line.
-
I'd probably recommend defaulting the panel in this case, if the timeline is correct then sounds like someone has remote access to your system via a Smartcom. You would be able to confirm this as you will have a small (A6 sized box with yellow stripe across the middle) mounted adjacent the control panel. Defaulting the panel should clear the app and user codes and then if you need this functionality you can set it up again would be disabled as default. The page numbers move about as the manual gets updated regularly. Section 5.6 System outputs covers everything with a pretty flow diagram.
-
The panel is so old you have no option but to series the bell tampers, which is how it should have been in the first place IMO. Be surprised if the tamper on the one in zone 8 works correctly No idea what all the Tamper mode or link settings do never used the Klaxon, you may find that in the instructions it tells you how to wire for two bells using the Tamper mode using another method. If you doing it the old school way like we spoke about I would believe you need to. First Bell would have TR to TR and the TS back on the spare core, join in the panel to Second Bell feeding the TR and then TS gets your neg loop from bell or panel whichever. That way no matter which bell you open you will get a tamper at the controls and they will self activate.

Leave the mains power off? If you have no evidence that it ever worked there could be anything wrong with it or the rest of the installation.
-
I vaguely recall your original post and it all still applies, pretty sure I covered all the pros and cons in some detail. It can depend on the bellbox, but if it has no special multiple box connections then you would just series them. I don't see where you feel it would be an issue. Wiring a bell to a zone would normally require you to have tamper lead you can separate from the PCB for it to operate correctly, this removes some of the self activating feature of the bell. If it where a new installation now with Texe I'd just use an expander input for additional bell tampers keeping them separate, but everyone's kits different as above.

I'd guess it's part of tamper circuit then, clamp it with a small terminal block if so.
