  1. Don't you just love it when they mount them in the control panel.
  2. With the e-line, how are your installers getting on with putting the detector upto the ceiling with that screw cover needing to lift up? I had a look at video and what eol board do they come with? I use Tex and not had any problems. I like the Bosch but they don't come with eol.
  3. That's correct, false alarm.
  4. Something you don't want from your detectors.
  5. Thanks M8, as normal no costs on website
  6. Thanks James I had downloaded that and used it to come to the same grade. But where did you get guidance from for you risk factors/numbering. I guess what I'm asking is when they say prove your competency to carry out risk assessments for intruder what guidance are people using. The same goes for fire really although I know with fire people tend to go with FIA training (not a qual as such).
  7. Risk Assessment to determine system design criteria, Grade and coms. Where are you people getting guidance to help determine the overall grade.
  8. Of course, if a door bell cable has to why should cat5 be any different. You also have to remember you have to comply to all parts of the building regs not just part P. There are large parts that only apply to new builds and extensions for example you can rewire a domestic building and not have to comply with part M on heights of switches and sockets unless requested.
  9. Indeed... But they are not wiring systems are they. + you don't normally install toys though the fabric of a building or to it.
  10. Page 2 of the approved doc P (low voltage and extra low voltage) You must also be installing to a minimum standard of BS 7671
  11. What makes you think alarm systems are not covered by building control?
  12. Galaxy flex (Honeywell new range) & selfmon app (made by the member on here known as Galaxyguy)
  13. You simply buy a consumer unit (Metal in domestics from 1 jan 2016) with a locking door. I think the last time I read doc M/P there was a hight stated for MCB'S(I could be wrong). Most alarm keypads I have come across when fitted top at 1200mm, the screens are un readable at my height 5' 10" and i have to crouch.
  14. Registered dealers only.
  15. Is there anything better at that price point.
  16. Had mine in from release and no problems to report, it's also half the price of the wired IP-COM and no cabling to sort out. (None of the 3 green LEDs flash on mine? They are constantly on)
  17. I wish you were closer to me, I would happily work weekends and evenings for a good rate.
  18. I feel your pain it really gets my goat, I got took to the CEF trade show at NEC friday and the rep sat in the middle lane all the way there and back. & then you get the ones who drive in middle lane with a phone glued to there ear
  19. http://www.hager.co.uk/news-exhibitions-case-studies/news/amendment-3-to-bs-7671-2008/latest-news/wiring-systems-in-escape-routes./36966.htm Picture
  20. Wiring systems in escape routes – The following amendment is in response to the deaths of firefighters attempting to rescue people who have become entangled in collapsed wiring systems: • Wiring systems in escape routes shall be supported such that they will not be liable to premature collapse in the event of a fire. This means that wiring systems will have to be supported by metal fixings and cable ties or held in metal containment. Alternatively, conductors may be retained inside non-metallic containment with metal clips or cleats Time is just premature as there would be no way of stating a time with all differing building materials and fixings. Fixing to wood is fine because by the time the wood is alight and in danger of failure you would be past the premature stage and hopefully not using it as an escape route anymore.
  21. Staples are fine. The reg only requires metal supports/fixings for "premature" failure. Sorry for links it takes to long to link pictures Here are some examples for when you use plastic trunking, you may have see or used the second type before for your fire alarm cable drops. http://www.elsiefixings.com/ http://cpc.farnell.com/1/1/63792-d-line-sfd12fclippack-trunking-fire-clip-pack-of-12.html http://www.d-line-it.co.uk/fire-clips
  22. Seeing as it's about regs, you all have to work to BS 7671 (as you all know !-) ) The new ones out now and comes into force in a few weeks. Just a heads up for the peeps who don't know all the changes, the main one that affects you lot is that all cables in all environments that are mounted in a escape routes now have to have metal fixings, even a door bell cable clipped across a front door in someone's house.
