  1. removed a samsund PTZ during an upgrade a while ago and finally got around to putting it up at home the other day, but i can't get into the setup menu of it! i'm sure i got into it in the past when i was testing it on the bench but just can't now! its running pelco P, 4800B, ADD2. i've tried preset 95, 64, and 126 but having no joy. any ideas?
  2. be careful with staples! we recently had an intermittent fault with an IP camera which had about 10m of its run stapled. we took a reflexomiter, and this is what the cable looked like! you can see where the staples were... (and where the installer had obviously ragged a kink through the wall) and this is what the new cable run looked like, secured with clips! Generally i'm a fan of staples, but they can cause problems down the line, even when everything looks fine!
  3. again, why not have it recording on a remote client PC?
  4. can i just ask, why are you using two DVRs? in this day and age would it not be better to just have one DVR with a client pc at the other building?
  5. even more reason to fit an isolator! the only time i've ever had a CIE fault on a texecom was on a system where someone wired a relay to switch mains, and wired it directly to a digi output on the panel. on reading the log i noticed the panel usually crashed when said output had activated, looked at the relay and saw evidence of arcing so i'm guessing it sent some spiked voltage to the panel and reset it. sounds like your issue could be similar, if the control4 is on a different phase then the serial link could be getting some iffy voltage from somewhere.

  7. get an opto isolator on the comms.
  8. texecom premier will do it, and you can control the panel via the com port too. if you ask texecom nicely they'll give you the protocol
  9. things like that are the best. it was running around derelict/in process of demplition buildings when i was a kid and salvaging various electrical bits that got me interested in this industry in the first place the BBC studios in manchester was an alladins cave of goodies up for grabs! XD
  10. nice! what kit are you using?
  11. learn something new every day, thanks! i've never worked out why on some routers you only need one site, and on others you need two. which is why when setting up i do the remote one first and if it works on the LAN i stop there. thanks!
  12. my first was an elite 24
  13. technicolour is the ONLY router on our blacklist! if a customer has one and wants remote access, we tell them they need to change it. as luck would have it, we also sell netgear routers
  14. depending on how low down the wall the camera is mounted, if the place has a false ceiling you can do a diagonal hole up into the wall from the camera location, then one down from above the ceiling, and then fish the wire through. takes a lot of practise to get it right, but is a good technique once you've got it.
  15. nice one James, thanks!
  16. i've still not had mine approved yet, what's the average waiting time? i understand i don't post in this forum too regularly so the mods won't be in a rush to approve me, but a rough idea would be good. Thanks (also, how do i change my avitar?)
