  1. 'Free' should be taken with a pinch of salt. Its de-facto 50p per text under normal usage. The reason it is not very good is that if someone were to cut the phone line, or breeze into the house and rip everything off the wall during the 'entry time', you would never know, because the integrity of the connection itself is not remotely monitored. Did the installer not discuss 'proper' monitoring at any time?
  2. Im also a qualified spark just so you know im not making assumptions here. 99% want the cheapest, from the bedsit to the millionare.
  3. Flol. I too am 'doing it properly' and up against bedroom weekend Enforcer fitters doing systems for less than I can buy the bits. Depends on your area but please, please do not assume alarms are easy big money.
  4. Hdsdi is perfectly valid and current and does have some advantages over IP
  5. Personally, and slightly biased, the first one sounds good, if installed properly. At least they have specified the make of the detectors. I'm less militantly against wireless, but agree if you can wire, do so
  6. Being brutal your CV could do with some work, simple stuff like spelling London with a lowercase 'l' is inexcusable in the age of the spellchecker. I'd also like to know a lot more (but not hugely more, about another sentence) about some of your positions. Also avoid terms like 'I consider myself' - I might consider myself the greatest installer in town but if I told you I *was* the best it might make you listen - could still be BS but it sounds more confident and more likely to be possible. Anyway that's just for starters, good luck!
  7. Just to be clear, when you say it's been walk tested you mean on the panel, not just red light flashing on the PIR? I'll be honest I am a bit stumped. As the panel is so basic I would prob. recommend a factory default and reprog.
  8. You either have a tamper fault on an individual circuit as above OR you have connected together two common wires incorrectly. Take them apart, test them one by one, then connect them in series one by one making sure you are dealing with one tested pair each time.
  9. I do think some people should stick to trade. But this guy was trade, and should have come with a much better case. Google is your friend.
  10. I think the general consensus is that someone with a system large enough to have 160 devices plus would have set out the original problem with a lot more detail and detailed the actions they had already taken to try and solve the problem.
  11. Yes, I'm sure the original 80's BT security did well. I mean their attempts from circa 2000s onwards to sell DIY kits. First with the powermax circa 2002ish and then again quite recently with ?chinese custom made kit. Both were abject failures in terms of market cap, despite being tied to monitoring. AFAIK the monitoring service IS still available on the original powermax kit but long since sold off by BT to some 3rd party.
  12. I was assuming an old installation that's suddenly gone wrong, but you never can tell. OP is this a new alarm or an existing one that's worked before?
  13. You've definitely walk tested the detector on the panel?
  14. Hi there, Unfortunately as per our rules we can't give out Engineer manuals to non-trade members, for obvious security reasons. If you don't have evidence the alarm has been recently serviced, I would suggest getting a local firm in to do a full service and most would be able to accommodate your additional work at the same time, depending on the actual work involved. Sorry if this is not the answer you're looking for, but makes good sense from a security point of view.
  15. No but it gets lots of shares on Facebook, and the constant noise from passing minibusses full of sex-deprived modelling students seems to put off squatters.
  16. Elmdene will print as low as 20 Others will do it for free For everything else I'd use the local car vinyl graphix cutter. I do for small runs i.e. special boxes for void rental systems
  17. Yes bt home monitor is rebadged powermax with hard coded digi phone nos. Bt tried again to break into the home security market since then, but just like the first time Gave up and ended up dumping £££ of stock for pennies.
