  1. Be very careful. There is a horrible new thing called Managed Returns, basically means any idiot who can't get something to work, and alarms are a great example I'd say, just clicks 'Item Does Not Work' up to 180 days later, and it gets sent back at YOUR expense, and the money is automatically taken from your paypal account the minute they click 'return'. It's horrible.
  2. Just like that seller AxeManAde2000 selling 'factory seconds Texecom gear - special orders taken'...
  3. Bargain No. 2 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261703468518?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I forgot I was watching this, he has dropped the price from £149 if I remember correctly...
  4. Hi, welcome, and DON'T try the fish!
  5. Again, you're right that a very old panel could easily cause a fire, when a system hasn't been serviced and/or the battery is faulty, this can cause the charger to overheat. I have seen many older alarms, especially those with plastic boxes, on the virge of meltdown when we've been called out for other reasons (usually when someone has just moved in to a house). So sorry I can't give you more specific advice as it's not a model we ever had over here AFAIK. See also - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4dcqjRFGE8

  7. OP, you are absolutely right to question that video - however this is a UK forum and I'm guessing you're in the USA. I believe that in your part of the world, alarms are wired via an external transformer, making it a little safer than over here, however, this may very well not be the case for much older alarms. We always advise a security professional or if you just want it removed, at least a qualified electrician. Just for others, for clarity, yes, this is the installer showing you how to disable by opening the case etc... http://www.protection1.com/home-security-systems/support/technical/how-to/ademco/turn-off/
  8. Oh, we've upgraded, who authorised this?
  9. That must be some pretty old kit on the POS side, some supermarkets used to do this on the 'archive' side but stopped many, many years ago, long before separate journal rolls themselves were sidelined for digital archive I assume?
  10. Hi and welcome to the exclusive club that is, TSI.
  11. OP, buy from a decent place (like Security Warehouse) and you'll be fine. Get it from somewhere like ebay and every single penny will have been saved removing the amount of copper, hence your previous problem Pre-made kits like those you used are the worst quality out there IMHO.
  12. Send us a pic of the back of the DVR - should be obvious if you've been sold a analogue DVR I'd say.
  13. Agreed alarms will have to have keypads for granny and the cleaner but they won't be by the front door, most will use phones to arm etc...
  14. Yep AICO / Ei do a good range - with a 'meter' too which helps decide the likelyhood of a false alarm.
  15. As above - please don't assume it's 'faulty'... Although I did turn mine off on the boat being that I had no gas cylinder at the time and it just wouldn't stop going off.
  16. Are you sure? I think 4444 was the old code then they changed it to 9999 to avoid wear and tear on the '4' key... Lol at angry Santa - be a good pic for Burglar Alarm Britain though!
  17. Getting one off ebay is only going to buy you time though, why not replace? Just imagine if it fails again at a really inappropriate time.
