I think you might find an engineer willing to certify it dead, but unless it has been continuously serviced for the last few years I think a basic service is all most will offer, and be prepared for the fact that the majority will quite correctly recommend an upgrade. Where abouts in the country are you located?

As a para-medical professional, I can confirm they are better for your teeth than candy floss machines. Funny they say on the amb we don't do teeth and eyes but had a bloke last week who managed to lose half his jaw d**king about at a scrapyard (guess) and the manager of the local DIY superstore managed to get a bungee hook millimetres from his eyeball a gew years back. Did have a German gentleman phone 999 a few months back for toothache at a caravan site, I think he may have misunderstood the advice given to him Then again we're the mugs for dispatching an ambulance, as ever!

Well, it pays the bills and stops me getting bored in either job! If only I'd been more interested in the medical world at an earlier stage I'm sure I might have been able to take things a bit further. There is some truth, but also a lot of hype, about how 'autonomous' we are now, despite there being more guidelines (mandatory) than ever, but it's fair to say over the last 2 nights my leave at home rate was about 80% and that just wouldn't have happened ten years ago, then again I suppose ten years ago we didn't get all the 111 cast-off calls for 'chest pain' (i.e. coughing...) either! Most but not all my customers are aware of my limitations and nearly all of them are on cloud/IP which is the only way it works. Disable a zone and do the site visit some other time works well, it's never been an issue yet. I guess at least with your current career you don't have to worry about (assumes...;) ) you not quite being a rock superstar, plus it's good to have a different hobby, there are more than a handful at work where the service literally IS their life, I'm sure it's the same in most hospitals and sometimes you need people like that, other times I just think it's a little bit sad. Funny you mention Timsbury as I'm off there tomorrow very early - via a quick call in Corston, and then MsN Friday! I don't think it's actually that funny but Mr. C wrote a 'graphic novel' (yeah, a comic) which relocated the Superman back story to WsM...

I was going to say Kelston Round Hill, but it isn't, is it? Solsbury? I still have a few customers in Bath, one not far away from your practice, about ten years ago I moved from Weston, Bath, to Weston, Super-Mare. Now working part time as a Paramedic and part time running the best security company with 4 letters and starting with C, except for Case who admittedly probably are better. Wow this is like that 'where are they now bit' on Buzzcocks isn't it...

I love frosties too!

And yet after a brief look in the Online Internet Dictionary I found your name credited with the term GGILF
-
Hold up; Have you been breaking into care homes and asking the residents for their opinions again?
-
Can't say I'm into DubStep, so not a name I recognise.

Do you perhaps also just want to say hi to a couple of folks who've come all the way from Radstock?

I have just bought two pairs of reduced price work shorts from Lidl. On reflection they have a slightly Hitler Youth look about them, and I'm not even joking... *library photo, not one of the works Xmas party **google images result, so, the site that this photo came from has not been seen by me, if it turns out to be some white supremacy one, soz.

Alarm design advice for 3 bedroom house
datadiffusion replied to EDinMK's topic in !!..DIY Installers..!!
Just put a PIR on the landing like most would - unless there is a flat roof entry to one room only is rare (and even with the flat roof it is rare to go in and out to one room) A PIR on the landing catches people coming out from 1st floor entry, or those boshing the front (or back) door and running straight up the stairs for the bedroom jewelrly. No no no - forget this neolitic technology. This is why we've steered you towards the likes of Texecom. Do they have t'interwebs at their house? It's rare a kit will have everything you need - its usual to buy a kit and then add what you need. -
Alarm design advice for 3 bedroom house

One area where I am myself prepared to be flexible with how far coverage goes is occupation - it's surprising how often I am asked to fit an alarm for an old couple and when I check the logs its been set about twice a year! That's fine if the twice a year is two three month cruises (which is the case for one particular customer, and I fully understand why they want an alarm) but I was just wondering, I take it the house is regularly empty for hours rather than weeks at a time, or not? -

Alarm Sounder Box Nightmare to Reach

You won't. Texecom or i-On 30R, both support cloud, remote admin, fobs, and a wired bell. (didn't realise the Elite 12 was history.... assuming the 64 is the same price or have they gone 'premium'?) Despite me using I-On if it was a 100% wireless system from new, the 2 way wireless on Texe nails it tbh. Pyronix, not sure (without buying a 'big' system and then not using half the features) re. the wired bell. -

No, the idea is to check what is already there, and if it's working, and appropriate (as I say, pet sensors if you have pets) thats fine, but you need to do this before you upgrade. Ring and simplisafe (which looks utter tat, I have to say) are quite expensive subscription based models and in the long run would offer zero saving for a product with a definate finite life. As you can see Scantronic (Eaton) are still supporting models 20 years later. You can guess what a US based Silicon Valleys tech co's attitude will be to even a 5 year old product! -

Sounds like a professional job then, also you would need to prove it is indeed 'good enough' by having the existing wiring and sensors checked (for operation, suitability and placement/coverage) before worrying about replacing it. e.g. have you got pets, are the existing sensors pet friendly? Do the sensors installed work? The next issue is that whilst I and many others can recommend a system, most installers will prefer their own system and most will install only that. Personally I would replace this alarm with an Eaton (Scantronic) i-On 40H which can handle up to 10 wired zones and any new sensors can be wireless, the keypad accepts fobs and you can also have radio fobs. The best bit is the free cloud app to you can monitor and control the alarm from a smartphone. -

That's a Scantronic (now Eaton) 9x5x series alarm. It is old but you can still buy the 9651! (a basic 8 zone max version) Are you intending to fit the upgrade yourself, and what features are you looking for? When was the alarm last serviced? -
For sure but the whole idea of an electronic voice calling out zone numbers is quite interesting, for the time.
