  1. I am struggling to work out what box it was, was it one like this ressurected classic, but the deeper version...? https://www.bentleysecurity.com/product/classical-sounder/
  2. fixed. We often get people on here who take it very personally when we tell them DIY is not always the best way to go, usually because 'I work in IT so I'm sure I can wire up a couple of sensors' etc... However, the biggest downfall of DIY is not the installation (although that's sometimes awful) but that a well performing system will be properly planned and designed. Yale IS DIY tat and no-one on here would touch it with a bargepole I'm afraid. There is no such thing as the 'best' alarm, but there certainly are some bad ones. The best way to start would be to tell us about your property, any rough plans, weak points, entry points, who lives there, any special assets being protected (hope not as you probably shouldn't be DIY at all if that's the case!)
  3. Unfortunately recently rennovated cottage with oak flooring over chipboard everywhere But at least a replacement in the same location would have been better than nowt. Had to rely on the wires the builders had provided and a well hidden expansion module back to back with what was a 4 core(!) to a PIR
  4. Although, there was that attempt to flog them via 'approved' installers a few years back, black bells IIRC, I think that fell flat on it's arse. But yes OP, DIY tat I'm afraid and you'll be lucky to get a reply, that will tell you they don't sell anothing other than the horrible yellow circles.
  5. I look after 2 adjacent 1.5-2 million pound properties in Bath, both unusually still complete houses where most others are flats. Both nice owners, but owner No. 1 won't upgrade his ion 40 to the cloud version because 'it's a bit dear'. Remember, Eaton are the ones with no monthly fee for cloud I would add the house is full of gadgets including nest, servers, etc... so it isn't as if they are techphobic.
  6. fixed This place, and most others, are a shadow of its former self (number wise, number wise... keep you hair on admins ) The kids are all into The Face Book now for groups apparently.
  7. Did a job where the AG6 was pretty inaccessible but only about a year old so if it worked I intended to leave it (dumb builders positioning, not visible from frontage where I put a dummy) As it happened, it didn't work, but also as it happened the customer had scaff up for painting. It didn't work as wired incorrectly by builder (lol) but I did think what a crock it was when I wired it properly. Should have bloody changed it I think.
  8. "We don't do duvets!" ok, you probably had to be there
  9. If threads are busy, please leave later, but DO leave!
  10. Forget MrHappy and his slow trade approval, I can have it done for you in under an hour with bank transfer Welcome anyway
  11. It should but although Z-wave is a great infrastructure it's mainly useless on it's own and only niche alarm manf's support it IIRC. At least my system knows (when it works...) if the alarm is set or not and some PIRs have z-wave piggybacks (stamp sized modules with super mini relays that sit between panel and PIR).
  12. Hi from one of the zoo keepers You are a spy from www.thefireandcctvinstaller.com and I claim my five pounds

  14. I take it orange is now the official colour for any board owned cabling or is this just a porridge land thing? I never did do much industrial work, but I do remember at BaE every single electrical conduit or duct was painted that exact same oddly off-orange colour.
  15. Found out the hard way just before holidays how this can go tits up badly, mind. My Fibaro home controller creamed in, which means that certain rooms without local switches (doing it this way massively sped things up) were in the dark with literally no way to turn the lights on. Lots of rooms have basic, dumb PIRs like the toilets and laundry, but some like the porch and other outside lights work off of a Fibaro PIR to allow for additional scene based switching and early-on / all-night on during holidays etc... depending on light levels. To make it worse Fibaro have pulled out of the UK (they still support from Poland but the office is closed). Hapilly the controller is built upon a very ancient mini-ATX computer with only a custom case and custom (USB based) RF module, I couldn't quite believe it but all tests pointed towards the mobo, unlikely I know as most computers need to be 99,9% working to even get to the BIOS screen. It's linux based and although the VGA port is blanked off, connecting it to a monitor showed it hanging at the USB stage, odd, since the USB appeared to otherwise work. Long story short the only supply of identical mobos was the USA, hapilly they were peanuts (Intel Atom based) and not only is it fixed I have upgraded the RAM too (and no it wasnt the RAM alone that was the issue, I checked that first!). TLDR - If I ever move again, and do HA again, it will have to be for a system advanced enough for a 'mesh' type system where every the controller is used only to make adjustments and the function and programming for every node is distibuted around the system, e.g. the node is the controller relative to the others.
  16. Either you're younger than you've told us or you've lied about your life being too short for this type of thing?
  17. Those instructions in full; Turn off mains Remove battery Remove all traces of TP800 equipment Place into bin Contact a local installer, or, fit a DIY Scantronic 9651, Pyronix Enforcer, Accenta based kit, or, fit dummy box with a real brand on, ADT, Yale, Landsend Securities, John o' Groats Systems, it doesnt matter You are now less likely to be burgled with none of the downsides of owning a TP800. Please rate us on TrustPilot

  24. Everything depends on what you were trained on, as I've said before we were unusual back in the mid 90s in only installing LCD Gardtec 816s etc..., so would feel very odd to me downgrading new installations nearly 30 years later! I'm not saying I didn't play with LED panels but have only ever installed one, a gardec 300 or similar) after that I started contracting for the above firm and changed all my subsequent work to 9651 or better straight away (don't ask why I didn't use gardtec again!). Even my first ever system crash (my parents) at the age of 13 or something stupid was a 9800. I do agree that for some DIY the scope will be limited to exact replacements, also if you are not going to convert from global tamper to EoL, then there is a fair bit less benefit.
