  1. Yeah I'm sure when they are used the manufacturer intended e.g. turned off when unset
  2. If they are not allowed to 'deep sleep' when unset I can totally believe a year being about right? As I imagine the irony of 2-way not being allowed to turn themselves off would be more battery usage compared to 1-way. That sounds interesting, does the battery have to have been low first, and then does it sort of talk the user through it on the screen and not allow them to exit the battery change function until the tamper is back and the unit has been walktested?
  3. 3.6v would be perfect for a Scanny 'Breakglass' IF board https://www.safetysystems.pro/item/12629-scantronic-breakglass-detector-pcb-only
  4. Yale is the worst choice you can make. I would not be too concerned about thermostat interference with a decent, 2 way wireless system, e.g. not Yale.
  5. 4600, this is from the same bloke who has previously ebayed a 500r from a job I recognised from the zone list, he'd left it all on there including my sticker... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scantronic-4600-Alarm-Panel-And-3x-04608uk00-Pir-Detectors/143341953103?hash=item215fd8a04f:g:wikAAOSwSjpcuh8S Overpriced TS790, though IIRC this guy usually cheerfully accepts offers of 50% asking without issue - still overpriced though https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Menvier-TS790-cpu-2x-keypads-sd1-detectors-PA-button-Lec-expander-fm-4040-int/173981242796?hash=item28821715ac:g:m0gAAOSwzj9dEi2I Combined Pressure and PIR sensors - remember these!? FREE TRAINING!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Burglar-Alarm-Pyronix-P2-Veritec-Sequential-DD243-Confirmed-detector/173981242733?hash=item288217156d:g:GHEAAOSwJmVZvUii Looks like this 9100 combo could end up a slightly silly price https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333272988668?nordt=true Not quite sure how you would use it (even in the US) but quite cool in a way https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ATI-Alarm-Controls-Triple-Shunt-Switch-Police-Fire-Medical-Station/264105700883?hash=item3d7ded2e13:g:6FgAAOSwPA1cJQLY Other than that, not much going on at the moment...
  6. Yeah the neighbours when I was a kid had an early but 'professional' wireless alarm, I remember it going off every time a taxi used their radio etc... 180 odd Mhz on the 4xxx kit, you should be fine from the next street
  7. Yeah I ripped one out the other day, very odd, the keypad is full text & graphics, multiline IIRC but bloody hell it doesn't give much away to those not familiar with it already...
  8. I thought you had some quotes to do tonight? A mate had a Fiesta so basic only the drivers door had a speaker. I thought that surely the wiring is there for the other one, but no, a quick glance at the Haynes confirmed they literally only put one wire in for the base model!!
  9. Not a problem per-se, just going to be really fiddly wiring up the detectors, we've all been on site where some builder has used telephone wire and it should be OK just that the exposed ends are always very fragile, plus Cat 6 expecially is a bit bulky for getting into the smaller detectors. But, not the end of the world. And of course the whole colours thing, I find it an absolute PIA when someone has preinstalled phone cable.
  10. As I say, I imagine that even in 'always awake' mode, it still has battery protection and will only send a signal every few minutes or so like most wireless PIRs? As for carrying on with a smoke in the Kitchen, I'd bin your installers!
  11. If you haven't wired yet, don;t use Cat6 for alarm sensors. Use... alarm... wire!
  12. Ah... so even though the C4 is connected via IP, the detectors are prevented from sleeping. That's probably why then, I'm very surprised that is 'recommended' by Texe on the grounds of battery life.
  13. Agreed 2 years is about right for a change and unless cheap nasty batts are being used all decent detectors should last 1yr + from real world experience. Don't know in depth about Texe wireless but is it possible some detectors are not sleeping properly? Assume Ricochet types? I certainly had no issues with batteries when I did the largeish Ricochet installation a few years back, in fact thinking about it I never had a single low battery in 2.5 years... (I usually change at 2 as well but it was a charity job and I had access whenever I wanted). That was a mixture of PIRs, vibes and contacts.
  14. Yes my Opel Manta is ON THE LIST! but also via ebay fLOL 'GTI' 'XR2' applied to a standard Festa with locks you can open with a Yale key and yet 'Deters Thieves'
  15. I read that as Onion 1.6i Ghia, but I bet its a Sierra Chasseur You can't get more 80s a name on an 80s car than that except if it had 'Jason and Kylie Special Edition' at the end and a giant Roland Rat decal on the bonnet. But enough of Yeti's dream wheels...
  16. I once misread the start time on a training course at said HQ (they no longer use it as a venue for training) and turned up a bit late. IIRC the building that they occupy, formerly the Rank / Xerox factory, is one of the few nearly standalone bits, not connected to anything else. It turned out that everyone else had been given a massive tour of all the upstairs rooms, where a lot of both the older 'junk' but also prototypes and test beds were. There was also a tour through the remains of the factory and shed loads of NOS stock which I believe was ditched shortly afterwards when they had a big clear out. The only bit I got to see was on the way to the canteen (since closed I believe, as is the old social club) when they took a short cut through some unoccupied blocks and showed us the remains of a huge 300 zone ion test bed, bloke claimed 2k of wiring. I suppose that is only 20 reels. Gutted? You could say that. They now use Eaton Highbridge (of roof fall death fame, google fans) for any training that used to be at HQ
  17. Yep Elmdene are now merely a big warehouse importer. The original factory in Fratton was a short walk from my great aunts house and I remember seeing skip fulls of 'reject' mouldings! Would love to find a BNIB Thorn, thats the one box I've never seen for sale on the bay, nor removed apart from one years ago that was an empty shell that had been battered with a hammer... Funny enough that was what would now be known as a 'pop up shop' that someone had tried to burgle so they decided to get an alarm after all (this is when I worked for the contracting firm). Nearly 20 years later the whole complex (ex factory) is still falling to bits but the new houses have never come and it's still full of small businesses. Christ I hope theyve replaced those disgusting shared bogs...
  18. Yep long post takeover of Telecom by Moderns and post integration hence hexes and gals I suppose. For a very short time didn't they change all a number of former yellow Modern boxes & new installs to white hex's with 'ADT Modern' on them before realising the yellow was the best (or most recognisable) bit about it? It's interesting that the original US made Telecom panel doesn't support an external siren but then again why would it? They simply don't seem to use them in the US. Also even Chinese designed and produced DIY tat alarms such as the likes of Wickes and the butchered Visonic BT kits all had UK made bells or dummies (both Elmdene, who at the time still made in the UK)
  19. Yeah when the company got wound up! Although as H says I bet you somewhere there is a 'Assetco 1986 (Modern) Ltd' that used to be Telecom, probably with £700 in the bank and 25 years worth of 1 page dormant accounts.
  20. Id have to say given the opportunity I'd still to this day choose wired everytime, until the day batteries last 10 years+
  21. Probably not going to help if it needs to be wired to make it the appropriate detector. Wasted opportunity though having building work done and not putting wires in Nothing wrong with a mainly intruder co. doing domestic fire, after all the rules are pretty simple in private dwellings. But not knowing about smokes not being suitable for a Kitchen is a bit worrying.
  22. So probably 40 at the apex then, assuming you're reading this from a home automation sensor at head height or similar? I imagine both the wired and wireless sensors take temperature into account, e.g. perhaps would be classed as interference/dust/other at 25 degrees is treated as fire at 40 degrees and rising? Although if you think about it, it will be hotter if all the doors and windows are shut all day and night though? I guess it won't matter if there is enough glass. Our conservatory at our old house was terrible for solar gain, in the end it was actually unusable virtually until we had the local tinting people come over. They usually do chavvy cars but did use the proper 3M stuff and it made the room usable. In the current house we went for solar control glass and I'd have to say even yesterday it was surprising how comfortable it was in there.
