I don't know a lot about them but guess there were quite a few models in the same case over a few years? We only ever used them occasionally, I do wonder if even now I overuse DTs now they are so compact but have very few true FAs. This looks pretty special! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NAPCO-IQ-VISION-Advanced-PIR-Sensor-with-Pet-Immunity/293096560047?hash=item443dea95af:g:Q3UAAOSwq0pcums~

Don't worry about it, Happy is just sad his best anorak got ruined at radio club. Scraping the barrel now... Brown PSU (early Modern alarms coporate colours?) at a stupid price - Mr H's fave colour https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-Volt-5-Amp-Power-Supply-Unit-with-Battery-Back-up-facility-Intruder-Alarms/202725795619?hash=item2f33662723:g:GmsAAOSwOfdZtZCg Obscure Philips observation systems accessory (not alarms but hey, I remember this tat from our local Gateway!) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Philips-TP-camera-interface-box-VSS2907-01/123723896538?hash=item1cce84d6da:g:OkMAAOSwXbFb2cFR Old but not old enough to be that interesting Gardtec https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gardtec-Risco-Group-Alarm-Panel/113763132477?hash=item1a7ccfa43d:g:MRUAAOSwYbpc6~Tg I've found @al-yeti's web shop and I claim my five pounds https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/door-opening-alarm/223458206371?hash=item340725a2a3:g:4k4AAOSwb2hcljBz Proper old school PA https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAXHUNT-SINGLE-PUSH-PA-BUTTON-STEEL/192896825585?hash=item2ce98bf8f1:g:w7IAAOSwZPNcv1-2 Oh yeah I know Mr H (and indeed the whole UK) is desperado to find out, it was Napco we first installed, but a bit newer than these... The boss used to buy everything from Gardtec wholesaler and apart from the cable, the batteries, and the DSC range I think Napco were about the only outside brands they sold? It does appear a company trading as C&K systems inc, founded 30 years ago, is still trading in the ePOS market. Im guessing this resideo thing doesnt include 'professional' security like Gal etc...? First DTs I installed were huge things, kicking myself as I forget the make. From this very forum... @FASTCAR said.. I'm not quite sure of the context of 'Security Lighting' unless it was a rebrand or rebadge? Even sparkier sparky special? I do remember the Accenta RKP was at one point repurposed as the control for some naffo DIY / home CCTV product from ADE / Chloride / Honeywell whatever name they were using on the day.

Ah you see in Somerset torches are way out of the budget of the average burglar, they get all confused in the dark and go for easier targets with the candles on all night.

I'm guessing C+K were once a US alarm company totally independant from anyone else before the Honeywell T/O*, but also well established over here given the no of LED type systems around? What model would the programmer usually have been the keypad case for (or was it not a UK model...) *or perhaps not takeover, but spinoff... https://opencorporates.com/companies/us_va/03511359 > https://www.cksystem.com/

On that point I've gone for press type switches so that some of them can do up to 4 different things, have you kept toggle types? Or are most of yours new wireless ones? I put up some Philips Hue floodlights (nearly 200 notes each, f me!) for a client as part of an alarm recently, although some of the lights were simply our own globe ones with their Hue lamps; to be fair it does seem to work quite well for a DIY system, and total freedom for placing the wireless PIR, but I just hated the whole thing in the rest of the house where you have to blank off or leave the existing switches on all the time or do wierd click combinations on a rocker switch. In the main room they did have an adaptor which covers over a UK standard plate with holder for a battery powered remote, but again it's not intuitive what the buttons do for the casual user. And I think it's hurdles like that the kit has yet to overcome to gain acceptance.. Our 'goodnight' button doesn't set the alarm yet, I've got a spare input on the bedroom lamp module so I might actually use that as a goodnight+alarm scene rather than starting the set from the stairs even. As much as I love my setup, and even with all my experience doing it on my own home, I'd be really wary installing it for a customer or more bluntly, providing an day to day warranty on functionality. Too much for the customer to mess up let alone the firmware updates. As you can imagine even the Hue job was done as an add-on the an IAS on the condition that the customer is fully responsible for the Hue parts...

I'm guessing you meant DON'T need a -ve as that is a pain with most HA kit, though less of an issue than you might think as I've simply installed some in a recessed Appleby ceiling rose box, the rest of the house was rewired anyway. I agree that the killer feature for me is the 'goodnight' switch which is at the bottom of the stairs, press once (or twice) and its a 'normal' lightswitch, hold down and the house is basically put to bed...

[I know this is an old thread but resurrected for @james.wilson] So, update, yes @Simlec you were right, and the X10 kit luckilly I binned off before it got too unreliable, I admit defeat! I'll stick with the A-bus forever though, I am one of these people that prefers the radio to playlists and just want to walk in a room and press a button for music, not find my phone and tinker around with it. Currently I am using... Fibaro HomeCentre 2 (getting old now and expecting all-new Mk 3 controller esp. after Italian takover of Polish (Fibaro) firm About 25 Fibaro switch devices About 10 Qubino devices A handful of other devices by other random manf's inc. Aeotec Have recently integrated it with my alarm but at 'arms length' e.g. the HC can only do a set or unset through vague means, there is no obvious 'unset the alarm' button in my HA app devcies screen if someone was to find my phone, it's hidden and only auto sets or unsets in very carefully controlled situations. There is now 'home or away' integration with Nest through IFFT - I previously used to have to use a Belkin 'Maker'' (relay) module as an inbetween. As a bonus since I bought the now redundant 'Belkin Maker' module they no longer make anything like it and I sold it used on ebay for £100, no joke. As a summary it works the best it ever has after a recent surge of firmware updates - TLDR I would definately recommend though that no-one on here ever installs it for a customer unless they have a special contract. I would never use it for security or first-line access. I initially used the 'Lite' controller but this basically creamed in at about 20 devices, and that's before I started writing too many automation scripts. The reason for this is that the two devices (Lite and HC2) share code but the Lite has even less RAM than the HC2 and the code was just getting bigger and bigger until one day a firmware update just broke it. It's fine now it's been reset and I intend to use it as a 'slave' or secondary controller just for the annexe. On the Vera / MiCasa Verde front, a lot of people on the Fibaro forums jumped ship thinking it was the answer to the problems with Fibaro, of which there are some, but only found out there were other, but ongoing issues. with Vera, and at least came back to a system they knew by a company that hopefully is in it for the long haul.

Yes, I had it from an ancient (15 year old) cheapo fluro lamp actually (on Fike). But the way the sun reflected through this floor to ceiling uncurtained window at the same time of day as the FA, and the fact there clearly was no fire, I can't think what else it could be. I have also been out to several 3-5 year old Fire Angels badged with local brigade logo where the 10 year battery has already failed. The latest fad is brigade badged teabags ('test your alarm whilst the kettle boils') to be fair the tea is quite decent.

I made an easy call out the other day, look after a block that has our system in the communal area plus heats inside each flat lobby. Called out by block manager for 'your fire system false alarming' complaint from tenant which I was suspicious about as the site is on comms and no other complaints. Landlord who had turned down our quote to replace in-situ Aico had put fire angels in every sodding room including the lobby next to ours. Looks to me as if triggered by sunlight (massive full height uncurtained window). Landlord has removed that alarm, which isn't even needed, no more false alarms, block manager has passed invoice for false callout to landlord and paid in full. (I should point out that the 'lobby' really is a tiny unfurnished lobby and the flats Aico is quite correctly in what should be considered the flats corridor) I don't understand why the gardtec is being replaced in that quote? I know Gardtec is ancient but 840 was top of the line, metal case etc... & so personally I would be happy to support it with a caveat it could conk out at any time with no spares availability. I am not sure where the 7 years for smokes has come from, most smoke detectors as has been pointed out will have an expiry date printed on which is usually ten years. As has been pointed out, there are no batteries to fail, a modern 12v optical detector in a domestic setting will easily reach this lifetime and maybe more provided it has regular smoke-simulation testing. https://uk.eaton.com/content/gb/en/products/product-catalog/scantronic-Menvier-security-multifunctional-fire-detector-alarm.html

Bugger me I'm getting old When I first discovered t'interwebs a username containing 'red dwarf' usually denoted a spotty 15 year old herbert now its the mark of a penniless pensioner but seriously, no really, I agree - replacing with battery devices is a backwards step. Even nest ones as they are designed to be binned in ten years, they simply refuse to work past their tenth anniversary. If you think you have the skills to reprog the unit, which you may have, or not, who knows, whats stopping you replacing the smokes? You'll actually find 12v smoke detectors CHEAPER than decent quality mains+battery Aicos for a start, and the wiring and panel area already in place, so...

Yeah I've got a boxed 816 'service spare' PCB, used to have a 9600 one. I do remember that era of 'go to your nearest ADI if it fecks up and after a row they will replace the PCB'. Thing with the TSLEC6 is that IIRC anything after TS600 can use the TSX which is available for pennies, so any mong in a situation where they need a LEC6 other than a stable genius collector such as myself deserves to get ripped off. Hilariously (also IIRC) the LEC6 is supported right up to M series to support upgrades but 'not recommended'. As you say, it's just 3 x LEC2s, and a LEC2 is essentially just the exact same hardware as a keypad without keys or a display
