It is a decent unit, but it is overpriced compared to some which offer exactly the same features, like the TELL. The TELL units are not Chinese tat, they are very well made, but about half the price. I'm certainly not scared to fit decent kit but paying double only means you probably have less margin if you want to actually get the sale.
-
Oh yeah I'd forgotten that. It's ?£300 pricetag does tend to grind a little when you can get the TELL type units reasonably. I know they don't have customer-facing displays and all that but you can in theory GPRS into some of them and with all models send specially formatted, password protected texts to make changes inc. numbers.

I assume the GJD product is directly factored in from China, it looks like something off of eBay IMHO, although having never used one I won't pass comment. Most GJD kit is great, but this does look a little odd in their lineup.

Gardtec 490X Burglar Alarm control panel
datadiffusion replied to Paul Massy's topic in Members Lounge (Public)
Hi, That's not a panel that many will be familiar with, although I could be wrong - did it come with an installer manual? -
Best quality, i.e. not Chinese tat are the TELL ones IMHO. If it's your first order they do it at 10+ price, so pretty cheap. http://gsm-secure.co.uk/GSM-Compact-II.php Otherwise...

Goes both ways - I wouldn't want to be associated with an unknown quantity either.

Hi, welcome to the forums. Unfortunately, I suspect this is not a brand that anyone here will be familiar with, being a UK forum. It seems to me you would be far better off with a US or Canadian forum. thanks for posting -
A rough drawing would be a lot more useful, you know what they say, a picture etc...

Unless you have a separate PSU, and/or one of the bells is set to SCB mode, way too much current for an R8, my worry is that Gumtree Garry can't design let alone install - so it might be that you need to think about the existing system design before we worry about kit. So we know that the front box is faulty, as it should have cut off after 20 minutes, but possibly re-sounded when you removed the power supply. As neither happened it's bin time for the front sounder. It might be worth sharing a plan of your house and existing detectors before we go too far?
-
However, if there has been a genuine power surge / spike due to lightning (these are really quite rare unless you live on a farm fed by a small locally mounted transformer etc...) you would be advised to check everything for operation, not just wiring, especially the bells.
-
Are both bellboxes real, or is one a dummy? How have you tested these so far for voltages, charging, operation etc...?
-
The first thing you need to ask yourself is... Am I capable of installing this myself (I'm guessing you got someone in last time for a reason - and that panel was a LOT more basic) Have I fully tested all the apparently 'screwed up wiring' (also referring to post 1) What do I really need Wintex for? Because if it's just for monitoring the wiring, a properly installed alarm does that 24/7. Especially if you have one with a plain English, LCD keypad that actually tells you what's going on. Or do you mean, you wish to monitor the system for alarms? You will need to firstly ask yourself if you are up to the job, or, find a proper installer, not Derek from Gumtree or Dave down the pub.

Quick, get it on ebay for a pound less I noted the tempting ID terminals which I don't think made any M series on-board? (or did it?) A bit like the M series and x5 MSPSU which had unpopulated '9x5x' bus terminals, obviously they abandoned that idea, shame.

Everest box round our way, looks ancient, presumably a dummy from the start, elmdene hs500 style. -

Yes, just to clarify things do go out of date the day you buy them, but things move slowly in the alarm world and thankfully so. But, in the case of your system what I mean is that even when you had it installed it was an old system. Agreed that parts are still available even now, but there is clearly an issue and do wonder how much more money is worth throwing at it. As above Eurosec is sub-budget and I rip it out frequently. That's not to say a replacement needs to be megabucks. -

IMHO it was out of date the day it was installed, not what you want to hear but thats the way it is, sadly. -

I know a sparks that was being hassled to change a plastic lightswitch for a metal one; despite having done the bloke a load of favours during an extension being thrown up, being messed around by the builders, him changing his mind on socket locations just after first fix etc... Geezer had my alarm but thankfully my bits were dead easy. Anyway he turned up before 5am, it was almost light being the height of the summer, bloke started to but he argued back saying if he didn't do it right there it would be in 3 weeks time or something, so he let him in. No tea offered mind! f-lol! -

I agree with that - but (and if) you're advertising a 24/7 number, you kind of have to expect a call or two... Any (frankly idiot) firm dishing out a personal mobile number should expect it anyway IMHO. Quite what he would do about it at 4am without legitimately charging £££s for the callout is another matter, of course. -

Depends. If he really was stupid enough to have one engineer code for all his systems, which he has just sold to you for the price of a large KFC.... Wow. If that's the case he has effectively just sold you a key to break into any property with his system in, and probably not the first time he's done that. -

4am low battery says temperature is an issue in my book. Seen this with genuinely low batteries in the summertime. -
