  1. That doesn't make it legal... I remember finding a leaflet in the box saying it would 'soon be discontinued for the 808 / 816 / 840 range' when I bought a spare CCU in 97
  2. How about a seemingly pre-EN spec (it has a full size PCB, glass fuses) 9651 with a reskinned keypad for just £120 notes? That's RS value! http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/security-alarm-control-panels/7044041/
  3. Ah, hang on then, I might have seen them as well! They had an RS sticker on, but that makes sense as RS used to sell a lot of DA stuff before they moved to Risco (and now re-badged Scanny as 'Abus', wtf?!) Unlike most beams, were they flat with a large black shiny area covering the whole front?
  4. Were they about the size of a ten pack of ciggies? If so I might have ripped some out in a shopfront (the shutter fitters would have taken them out anyway!)
  5. I thought the 9600 - for some reason - didn't suffer in the same way as the 9800 with the EEPROM trouble, or am I talking bobbins?
  6. I don't think it is going by the rest of the conversation, it's all native gear from what I understand above, including the remote? In theory a fresh set of batteries in all and could be OK, seems to be quite good kit from the sound of it, for it's age.
  7. Ah well it could have well looked like that round the back I guess then, didn't actually go in! I remember one year they had loads of drums of oil outside, I had no idea it actually degraded and wasn't 'sealed for life' http://www.electricenergyonline.com/show_article.php?article=172
  8. The lack of information was a good clue to it's modernity and usefulness
  9. I'm not convinced that Generation Z will give a toss though? Now, that's not to say that just because I didn't covet a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost when I was 19, that doesn't make it less valuable, I just can't imagine them meaning much to anyone alive.
  10. Actually looks a bit similar to the Opel Manta one, which was pretty cool - the Monza was similar but with colour LCD panels, cool or what?
  11. Bubble pricing with that £275k Audi, once the current generation of 40-50 somethings that era means something to are dead it'll be next to worthless, I'd say. Same thing is happening with classic fruit machines, £2k for some 'classics' now, ten years ago I sold a mint 1985 machine for £1, cos that's what the market thought it was worth. Nowadays same machine working, even in poor nick, £500
  12. It was a while ago but I'm pretty sure everything was totally enclosed - didn't venture past the door. I don't know much about distribution (although am a qualified spark) but we are only talking a 4" square room here. No doubt it was only fully enclosed being it dated from the 30s and nowadays it would be either totally exposed like the newer kit around the area or in a plastic shed. ME ME PLEASE CHOOSE ME!
  13. Bristol Water sites appear to favour the Reson8. Classy. Although no-one is ever going to hear them in the middle of sodding nowhere and the systems are almost certainly monitored.
  14. Not even steal, or at least, just to break it open and see what's inside I guess. Must have been boring as hell when they saw it was a big brick room with a single light, socket, alarm and big sealed grey humming box...
  15. Shouldn't be an issue, I'm sure the training was less than 8 hours.
  16. I'd be sending an invoice to the carpet fitters if you haven't already; soldering the wires probably isn't the answer on it's own, you need to have the system checked. When did you last have it serviced? P.S It's most like a Scantronic 9651. Pictures of the door contact, repair, and keypad would be helpful.
  17. You mean the tri-spoke gang? http://www.barryboys.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=37648 P.s is this your car I spotted at the boot sale?
  18. I junked my last 2 DA systems last year, both old Abacus 8 types, although felt ahead of their time with the full LCD display etc... on a small no. of zones panel I suppose, given their age. It was a slightly odd feeling that despite the 20+ year old boxes having been changed for 9651PDs (current model Eaton) the customer hadn't really gained anything other than fobs and possibly less power consumption!
  19. Yup that's right, I think they marketed a wireless only, Bosch originated system for a very short while but now, nothing...
  20. They'd be out of luck there too - they are a commercial-only specialist
  21. Lol, a tyre place round our way got done the other day, 'result' seemed to be one 1998 era Windows Vista PC and a 15" oil stained LCD monitor. Why do they bother?
