  1. Nah, they just tell you that. Believe me, they will sell it to anyone, as long as you tell them the magic phrase 'have applied for' or even 'am thinking about' SSAIB/NSI
  2. When its 6 years later and you've spent £700 just as the company goes TU, you'll wish you'd spent the money on something more sustainable TBH. If you are small, there is no need to spend megabucks; you're using BASE so for forms Word is probably more than adequate at this stage. However, automation is important if it's just you, but the online forms thing I can't imagine isn't available for free?
  3. Nope. I have a skeleton NHS contract, which was the problem. I didn't want to give it up as they would never hand it out again, I would not be able to keep up my professional competencies (easily) without it, and it would be a ticket back to work if I was ever unable to trade or install for whatever reason.
  4. A slightly more helpful take on it than mine and 100% true. Hope it went well I applied for NSI Silver not long ago and can only say they were very helpful and were quite pleased with my documentation. The kicker was that they wouldn't allow me to be approved as a OMB if I didn't give up my NHS contract, which I never will so that's the end of that
  5. Yeah that's the impression I get, forget everything you know other than how to wire a detector and start from scratch, product knowledge wise... I also find with a lot of these places, that because the market is slightly 'behind' in terms of demand (the UK is reasonably unique in having a large, professionally installed domestic alarm market IMHO) that the types of work and company types will probably be quite different too. When the domestic market does catch up of course, it will go straight to wireless & be DIY or at best non-specialist handyman type installers.
  6. Going by some of the 'approved' shite I've seen out there you have very little to worry about...
  7. What? They used to get what!? Come back H the suspense is killing me!! Fixed.
  8. I vote Mikes post as marginally more useful..
  9. he's a maverick he's out of control! But when it comes to exams He gets RESULTS!
  10. Ouch! Does the Mini suffer from using '0' rather than Zone 1, which as Scanny found out can't be transmitted via SIA?
  11. In which case the 46 upgrade would be your best bet by a country mile!
  12. It has 2 channels; to be honest, universal expanders really are a 'poor mans' way of adding wireless, and IMHO only suitable when you have a ton of spare zones (i.e one zone for each device + generalised battery fail, + generalised fault/supervision channel etc...). or you only want a wireless PA added to a system. I suspect you don't have an expanse of spare zones, as AFAIK the Mini 10 is unexpandable. You would be far better off replacing the panel (but usually not the keypad and rarely any of the wiring) for a Pyronix / Castle model that supports wireless 'natively' so all faults, battery low etc... are displayed in plain English on the keypad, relevent to the actual zone they are on. Furthermore, wireless can be a PIA full stop. Are you sure you can't hard wire the extra zones??
  13. LOL'd when I was in Japan, seeing the uniformed SECOM guards (in a 7-11 type shop) doing the old Buckingham Palace march + salute to each other on changeover!
  14. Well, here's a turnup. Installed an i-On EXDL30 today from stock, didn't actually need the 'D' bit but wanted the 'L' larger case. Upgraded to latest SW (4.05) and whats now in the SMS menu? TAP, TAP, more TAP, then right at the bottom, hang on... ETSI Protocol 1 with all the BT numbers pre-filled! However, this model has an on-board dialler, so remains to be seen if you still get this when you plug on a digi02...
  15. You would ditch the 9448 completely. The 9651 comes with the main box and a separate keypad that can be mounted anywhere. You could keep everything else; however, it does sound as if you might be better off getting someone in to do it for you. The biggest benefit of getting someone in would be that they can change the tamper wiring over from 'global' to EOL, i.e one tamper circuit per device, this would be without changing the wires to the detectors. Also if you get someone in they can advise you if you need a new system battery (highly recommended) and check the bellbox etc...
  16. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/0860208095/ref=tmm_pap_used_olp_sr?ie=UTF8&condition=used&qid=1476265557&sr=1-1 I'm not joking OP - if you are struggling now you'll thank me later
