  1. Not sure if Adrian comments on Public but I'm sure he would agree worth the upgrade - the Elites can do quite a bit more and are still getting updates. The old board will be stuck at the last version forever. That said, there is only a reason to upgrade if you want to do something elite specific I guess, i,e. add a ComWifi etc...?
  2. No, just loop in. But by using proper contacts like Knight https://www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/knight-g2-surface-contact-with-tact-tamper-and-selectable-res-p-3868.html Its all done for you anyway.

  4. Kitchens have not been included in Part P since April last year.
  5. No version of Scantronic allows multiple FSL on one zone, at least, not without modified wiring as per the manufacturers instructions i.e Elmdene, Knight etc... Galaxy I believe does allow multiple 1k/1k contacts on one zone with no modification.
  6. When they finally got scanning, did they shout out 'thick black, long space, thin black, two thick black lines....'?
  7. I'm guessing you're more security / full line electrical services? Never a truer word spoken when someone said '10 years ago, most security companies turned their nose up at being security / maintenance, thinking cleaning and fixing door hinges was beneath them. Its now those multidisciplinary companies that make the most money from commercial work and pose the biggest threat to most other security-only ones'.
  8. Hi there, sorry but as per the site rules we don't give out installer manuals in the public areas. However, if you are trade, have a look here - http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/forum-trade-access.html And see if you qualify, then it would be no problem. Hope this helps!
  9. You will always be up against that. The £299 boys will always be telling your customers what a 'rip off' you are, that's if the customers are not telling you direct, waving a screwfix catalogue in your face. Think very carefully before going it alone.
  10. M12's are good but I only fit Texecom Exodus these days for 12V
  11. Sounds as if you have a faulty battery, the tamper has been 'restored' so could be a PIR or DT that shows 'tamper' until it's properly powered up for a few seconds, I think some Riscos are known for this. I would get someone in for a full service and battery change.
  12. The guy wondered why he was getting 'tingling' in his hands when he touched the drainer when the dishwasher was on!
  13. BUT it must still be compliant. So if the existing installation is unsafe, you can't add to it. A classic example is a house with rubber cabling still (very unlikely to see these days) but there were a few still around when Part P first came in and although we probably would have offered a rewire or walked anyway, with Part P you had to say 'no' even if it was just a spur etc... Another good example would be the one I found the other day with everything quite tidy but NO main earth!
  14. There is no need to 'retrospectively' work to the 17th if, say, you are in a house done to the 15th, 16th etc... A case in point is fusewire type consumer units. The Electrical Safety Council (formerly part of NICEIC) are at pains to point out in a dedicated leaflet that this does NOT mean an installation fails a PITS / EICR just for having one.
  15. As I understand it, there are several options. I believe one is to have the Arc call the address I think another is to have a device such as from Knight which is effectively two separate mechanical devices in one case. On its own, the 710 won't be able to generate two signals.
  16. As far as I understand from a 'justifiable' point of view, the HSE regard live working as acceptable only in the absence of any realistic alternative. So if you are live working on a fuseboard that is fitted with multiple means of safe isolation, but you don't want to use them 'to avoid pissing off the client' and work live, this would not sit well. For suppliers who have no alternative but to cut into live cables, then of course there isn't a practical alternative.
  17. Have to be honest going by his wikipedia entry alone he sounds like a nutter... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stefan_Molyneux
  18. Good, just wanted to make sure. No.
  19. Now, remember what the nice policeman said...
  20. Quite a bit which will be the same if you are part time (like me) or not. Efficiency Insurance Public Liability Insurance Business type car/van insurance At least some stock as spares against call outs Ideally a separate landline or at least the appearance of one that directs to a mobile Book-keeper (or DIY) Accountant (DIY can be done, but not always the best way) Vetting if your hoping to be approved Ltd. status if you're hoping to be approved That's just off the top of my head.
  21. Unfortunately - in this industry - I'd the only real 'way in' left is start big already (i.e aquisition), get even bigger...
  22. TWOCing cars, shoplifting, assault - yes Most tort, a little out of scope, I think - although in the modern world the two arenas of law sail ever closer such as complex net fraud
