  1. As I have said before, this is a common and known fault with this panel. It will only be hours / days / weeks before it fails again either in the middle of the night or during a power fail, especially if the battery is knackered. It is likely only the live power on the panel that is currently sustaining the NVM, or as it current is VVM, Very Volatile Memory. At the very minimum a new battery and 24C16/M24C16-WBN6P DIP-8 Serial I²C Bus EEPROM is required.
  2. I would add that it sounds very much to me like you need a new battery, too. Even if it was OK, if it has been drained pancake flat, it may never recover.
  3. Yes it's a one wire I2C EEPROM chip, obsolete but freely available on the secondary market for a reasonable price.
  4. No test required, NVM failures that presented like this were very common on this panel, even in its heyday, power fail or not - but often after a complete loss. I can only assume there was a design issue on this panel that meant the NVM IC was either overvoltage or written to far more than was really needed or recommended by the IC manf.
  5. But in this case sounds like the old disappearing NVM issue. I think more likely the NVM has been dead for years but by fluke the panel has always had either mains or just enough battery until now....
  6. No, newer keypads are square although if you are 100% comfortable with the whole DIY thing, an older 9330 LCD keypad would cover the exact same space (esp. if the existing keypad was a newer 9827) and work even with a brand new 9561PD or a 9571 9853 etc.... However you would almost certainly be buying that 2nd hand, although new unused ones do turn up on ebay from time to time. Our advice is always to get professional help / installers, although any DIY questions are welcome on our forums too.
  7. Hang on, there is the NVM change to try first! This will require a complete reprogram though which is best left to a pro, and we can't give out engineer manuals I'm afraid. But to be quite honest, this is an old panel and a nice new LCD display such as on a 9651 or a Euro Mini etc... would be a huge improvement.
  8. 9800 or 9800+ if showing 'LB' I wonder if the power cut has cooked the NVM chip itself, a common fault at this age on the panel. Try a complete power cycle, mains first then battery, and let us know. Beware of mains voltage if not a trained alarm technician or electrician. But I would recommend replacement with a 9651, although new NVM chips are still available (despite their obsolescence within the wider IC industry)
  9. Hi, when you say you are new to the industry, do you mean you are a security installer* working for yourself?
  10. Always the sign of a rush job isn't it, bracketed PIRs sat in the middle of the ceiling. Used my 2nd one ever last month, moving an existing IR120.
  11. TBH they are already going for a fair few quid on ebay, can't see prices rising just yet
  12. Nope youre right, it's something they introduced on the last incarnations of the now discontinued 9751 9752 and 9853 EN models that's slightly pointlessly crept into the remaining 9651 model
  13. There is no issue, although on a 9651 the only relevant bus checks it's doing are for keypads. A longish wait is normal, I upgraded a 9853 last week with a second keypad and xpander and that takes about the same time to get to 'exit engineer?'. Other than mains or battery, if there are faults it can see, it won't let you exit. The only specific bellbox fault this panel can detect is an open tamper.
  14. True, if I ever wanted a simple proscribed point of civil law clarifying the last person I'd ask is a copper.
