  1. http://shop.bsigroup.com/ProductDetail/?pid=000000000030295318 Makes me laugh to think BS4737 is far from dead...
  2. I don't know about the Elmdene / ADT thing - it's confusing - didnt the ADT boxes - or at least the bell modules - get made in Italy for a while by Bentel (owned by Tyco) Someone did suggest that Elmdene make the Hex again, although, they may have always made the cover... Also weren't the Plastic Triangular Chubb made by Guardall at one time, IIRC they offered a plain red version to 'non UK markets'.
  3. I assume was once truly custom made like Chubb etc... but now just a custom CQR multibox cover? Sad to see the new ABEL box has gone from custom stainless to something else to now Yet Another Pyronix Am I right in saying that the 'new' Chubb hex shaped box (i.e. the old Initial one with a new blue cover) is not actually custom as such, just that they have exclusive UK rights to an otherwise commodity Aritech product?
  4. I would call a professional to disable and quote for replacement, this is a very old, obsolete system. As you can see it's biggest problem is that any faults are communicated in an obscure way, rather than the plain English text a replacement system would likely use. I suspect that at the very least you will need a new system battery.
  5. You always need to balance the usability of the system and loss of confidence from frequent false alarms. At night in a typical UK 3 bedroom, 2 storey house it is highly likely you will be awoken by an intruder causing ground floor circuits to be activated. Its highly unlikely in the dark that entry will be effected via a 1st floor bedroom, although a full RA will always help, as will perimeter protection such as vipers on windows above flat roofs, contacts on opening windows, etc... So I have no issue with the typical 'omit landing pir at night' type scenario.
  6. Well, I've heard that Knight use only EU or US made ones, I assume Elmdene buy 'locally' in China as they manufacture over there, and Ventcroft I can only guess must have bought a really sh1tty batch from god knows where. I have never had a door contact fail like that before, an RSD yes, although that wasn't welded shut that was random opening.
  7. I don't think they make them any more (it was their only MC product) so I guess I wasn't the only one.
  8. I tried the Ventcroft Premium Door Contact on a few jobs 2 years ago, they look nice on domestics, easier to fit than the Elmdene I was using at the time - feck me, back to nearly every single one, reed welded closed, Knight every time now.

  11. Thats what i like about my new phone system, ooh options are contract, no contract but old customer, or no contractand total stranger, or 4th option plod or council. Prices are quoted differently for the non contract options, and customers told to have debit card ready. They then press 1 to confirm before the call even connects. Works well
  12. Oh, Dave, yeah I know Dave. Hard to believe I know, but one day you'll just wake up and it will have happened.
  13. I asked that in post 2 so don't get your hopes up on having that one answered. Hence why the conversation has forked (twice) into smut.
  14. Was it the same mate who was having a woody in his bedroom only to turn round and find a fresh cup of tea placed by your mum, I mean his mum?
  15. No, no, no... It goes like this... You're in a small restaurant and you know the waiter 1 Way, just finished your starter, so you shout through to the kitchen for the main course. You don't hear back, but luckily enough (on this occiasion) he heard you anyway and brings it though - but next week, you might not be so lucky. 2 Way, just finished your starter, so you shout through to the kitchen for the main course. He shouts back 'OK you fat *******' and brings it though. You would know if he didn't hear you.
  16. Exactly, and I assume SiWay (Siemens / Vanderbilt) - only ever bought two devices for an SPC as a demo.
  17. Of course you also have scanny where the ion (and homelink) panels are 2 way capable but they couldn't be bothered to make anything but the keypad and one fob take advantage of it...
  18. I got some back to black 'pro' for the bumpers, not like the usual tat its a 2 part system and like very thin black paint, bumpers genuinely look like new and still do a month later...
  19. No need to post - snap with Mr H's...
