You can get the flush fit LCD keypad for the euro 46 which look quite nice and come in different colours. It's what I'll be fitting in my new home shortly.

I'd fit an enforcer 'all day, every day' if there wasn't any existing wiring I'd never get rid of wired for wireless if I had the option. The euro 46 would be my first option then the ion 40h. 1 way radio is disappointing on the ion but its the more aesthetically pleasing of the two panels imo. Grant

Use existing wiring for a hard wired system with all the other features surely? Hybrid system to give use of remote setting etc. I'd be fitting something like a pyronix euro 46 app or a Eaton ion 40h if it was me. Grant

Thanks for all the wisdom, definitely food for thought. Reasons for not wanting a big team of guys is Ihacr worked for a few co's, some big some small. Nobody seems to take on apprentices and train them properly hence the guys on offer are **** and inexperienced. I've seen guys taking the piss with times on jobs and stealing stock, basically bleeding the company dry. I don't want that happening to me. The guys who are good have all started up themselves, even some of the not so good. Im certain I could run the company I work for better that the owners, but it's getting the customers in the first place. I

A long time.... years, I'm aware of that. I know it won't be easy to get established but I'm not scared of a bit of graft. How have you all done it? Did you buy an existing company or start out from scratch? I'd target businesses I know locally to takeover their systems alongside installing new.

I'd be happy with a few hundred contracts to cover my costs and a half decent wage. Call shift would be a bit of a bummer but easier than where I am now if systems serviced properly. Most of our calls are due to **** servicing or customer not properly trained on resetting their system.

I'm 33, been in the trade 11 years. All my experience has been out in the field installing, commissioning and maintaining. It's not something I'd be jumping into tomorrow, I'd do plenty research on the admin side before going ahead. Where I stay there isn't a local security company, there are companies from surrounding areas that take care of things. Why do you say it would be boring? I'd take on an apprentice/labourer if needed and could afford to but have no desire for a large company with a team of employees - I've seen what goes on lol.

I'd be doing CCTV, intruder, fire and door access. Why isn't it possible? Do you run you own company? I'd start out with my van/tools all paid for and wife's wage would be able to get us by untill I built the company up a bit.

Hi folks. It has always been in the back of my mind to eventually start up on my own. My question is, is it possible to remain a small one man business in this line of work and get enough maintenance contracts to have a comfortable income and keep it that way? Or am I dreaming? Can add a hardwired or wireless keypad to an enforcer, and wired expanders to make a hybrid system. As above I always fit a wired bell and keypad then wireless detection if cabling isn't possible.

Tried linking the loop out completely to see if it sits fault/fire free? That would rule out the loop card. Grant

Never had a fault like you mention. I'd default and reprogram, takes 15 minutes. Grant

I've never seen that message if a digi fails to dial out or a line isn't present on an enforcer so I'm guessing it is nothing to do with the arc/Comms side of things.

How many h/w pirs fitted? As above sounds line to much being driven off the panel. Has all detection been successfully walk tested? Voltages at detectors?

Enforcer all day every day for me. I always wire the bell and keypad if possible too. Wireless is good for detection if cabling isn't possible but for anything like bells/keypads I would always wire. App has been flawless for me, have one fitted in my own house. Fitted plenty ion 40h's and the app has been pretty unreliable. Having to wait a few minutes after your system is set for your detection to respond is laughable also if you ask me. I prefer the look of the Eaton kit but the pyronix stuff just works, function over form for me! Grant

I suppose it kind of appeals to customers on a budget to give their old system some flexibility.... Probably not the target audience for a business as such.

Just buy the panel and swap it over if your confident you can program it then. Wouldn't mess around swapping over PCBs ect. (May have different rated PSU - PCB is definitely a different layout) Justswap the complete end station over - it has the same footprint as the ion 16 so will be a doddle.

Worked on plenty Ion's, unsure if you could upload the ion16 programming to the 40h as I've never done it before. The panel can be programmed in approx 10 minutes from the keypad (by someone who knows the panels) anyway so wouldn't go down that route. As above seems a good price so I'd pay that rather than trying to DIY.

Sounds like a visonic powemax? Not heard of hot or cold alerts..... What are the zones programmed as?

Is the panel back up battery healthy? When was it last changed? Probably when the power outage happened, there wasn't enough in the panel battery to run the system. The outside bell would then ring when voltage was temp removed from it (provided the bell battery is ok). I'd be checking panel battery and aux voltages and take it from there.

How have you found the Traffic Peter? Heard horror stories of gearbox issues on nearly new vans, perhaps they've sorted them out?
