Good answers, all appreciated... would you mind if I inserted a part of my opening post it might help to resolve the question? "....but rather it interrogates it's own received signals from detectors, but does not actually interrogate the detectors themselves only the received signals.."

Unfortunately, good answers worth thinking about, but nothing categoric.

I need some irrefutable proof from the experts on this one since a local electronics boffin appears to doubt the integrity of the term 'two way' when related to wireless detection. The claim, basically, is that the panel does not 'talk to' detectors, but rather it interrogates it's own received signals from detectors, but does not actually interrogate the detectors themselves only the received signals.

Yeah ! bit to patronising methinks Petrolhead. -
I'm not regarded as the 'main runner' in this field, but I would guess (working on lower end equipment) that you have a faulty device, disconnect to only the bare minimum and test again.

Well Snap Dufbeer ! I currently have at least a dozen books on The EU. You know what I think ? I couldn't give a Monkeys what they say and the quicker we leave that 'jobs for the boys' crew the better. Then we can start cleaning up our own career politicians and their jolly boys outing 'opening of parliament' and a few thousand other problems besetting this island...But you still haven't made it absolutely plain and clear...can I use my camcorder with audio where and whenver ? Time for some straight forward answers I think. -

"....Saying all of that, maybe the ICO will introduce an easier and cheaper option.." A goverment department handing out 'CHEAPER options'.... Never known that to happen in my entire life. -

I should imagine the changes would be on their website duffbeer. I'm still saving my sheckels for the 'licence to view' though. No smoke without fire as they say, so for my own part I believe there is a lot in what the site experts say or suggest..can't afford to be without my camcorder. -

"....ive had that exact happen, got know where with it..." I know exactly what you mean, although there have been several times in the past when I almost succumbed to ' taking the law..' as it were. -

They (them that do govern) only need a chance and I'm paying an invisible tax, yet another one. Audio next to a Master Bedroom, views of the same neighbour, pointing a camera directly into a neighbours house are positively 'not on' and prison would be more appropriate than a fine for the offender..although he/she would then have three square meals a day, x box, television, sports hall, dental treatment, library, mobile phone (yep ! mobile phone although they shouldn't)...On second thoughts I would rather deal with the offender personally. -
How old is it..when was it installed ? sounds like a program issue.

I can look forward to purchasing my annual licence to use my video recording equipment then !! I'm not joking. So, I'm sitting watching the Isle of Wight(spelling ?) rock festival on television and the cameras pan to close ups of virtually hundreds present at that festival over the time period of the festival. Is this deemed invasion of privacy according to the various statutes...if not...why not ? And how do you define "...the STATUS of the user.." ? landed gentry..MPs..and so on..please explain. I hasten to add that I and virtually the entire population of that land can video freely in public in the USA. So yet another invisible tax is on the Horizon in this green and pleasant land of ours in the form of some sort of licence in order to use your few thousand quids worth of equipment..typical. -

".... I think I willtry a new NVM,.." Don't see the point if you've got it up and running, and personally I wouldn't waste my time looking for a replacement chip. Enjoy the panel as is for now, but give serious consideration to Al-yeti's comments viz; new panel. -

I agree It's possible, but would need some qualification, what test would you recommend for confirmation ? -

I agree, in fact almost a 100% certainty. -
Only ever used a bracket once, very enclosed space at bottom of stairs, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

How 'close by' are the works ? one would imagine that it would be just as well to fix the fault first as last !!! -
There are ready made mounting holes on the pir for corner or straight wall placement. It's not often that a bracket is needed except in certain circumstances. Can you mount it in the corner of a room or flat wall ? Remember to seal any other holes to prevent dust and insect ingress. Usually, the pcb needs to be removed for mounting in this way (don't lose the pcb screw)..but not always...depends on the pir.
