Guest jedmc571 Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Hello everyone I have moved in to a house with what I can only assume has the worst Alarm install in the area ! it looks like the installer just couldn't be bothered to try and hide the cables and so just tacked them to skirting, architrave and in the bathroom has just run it accros the floor and behind the toilet. I would like to remove the entire system so I can decorate properly and in the future would like a more up to date system. My concern is I don't want to set the bell going and would like to know what the procedure is to disable it ? do I start at the control panel, the main box or the bell. ? Also if getting quoted for a new install would it be much more to have it removed by them ? Being Ex Military I am somewhat paranoid about security, and don't like the idea of people mooching round my house. Many thanks Jed
morph Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 The original install might have been a diy job. You would start at the bell, if removing it. It wouldn't cost much if anything for the systems to be removed if a new system is being fitted.
kka Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 i will not comment on the install, not having seen the job. , if you are thinking of decorating then it is indeed a good time to remove the old alarm. also a good time to have the new one fitted (ahead of decorating). removing the old alarm will take a little time, and some companies may make a small charge ( personally i do not, but there you go ). as stated the starting point for removal is the outside box. If you DIY then beware of the mains electric in the control box, it can / does kill. post you location on this site, somebody may be in your area, or check the listing on this site. Kevin Scott.
