Guest Goatsmilk Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Hello first post here so please be gentle.... I'm looking for an installation manual for an Optima Compact as my in-laws had one fitted 8 months ago. The installer has not left any manuals not even the operating one, he did remember to leave the bill though. The service timer has been set up and is now bleeping, there was no mention of this being done or was any choice given, which I feel is quite under handed. I either need the full manual or the procedure to turn off the nuisance reminder bleep. I have fitted a few alarms at home and for family mainly Veritas R8's and a 700L, I just happened to be in another country when the in-laws had a panel pack up and needed a new one prior to hols. So I have an understanding of what to do once I have the instruction manual. Also does anyone know if there is an override for the engineer code or will the operators code work for what needs to be programed? Failing that is there a way of getting an override code from the manufacturer? Regards Stu

The service timer has may have been set but the system is only telling you that it needs a service. Nothing underhand. No user overide for the engineer code, there is no such thing as an overide code(even from the manufacturer) Call the installer hes your best option failing that you need a new engineer or buy a new panel.

Regards Stu If fitted 8 months ago then a warranty should apply - call the installer and get him to return and put the matter right and request the User Guide which he should have left. We cannot give you an installation guide or any advice on codes and it would be unusual for an installer to leave the installation guide. Tell the installer that your mum doesn't want the service reminder and ask him to switch it off.

I expected that manuals would not be given out, but thanks anyway, I used to work for an elec wholesaler and still have a few mates there, will have to get a photo copy, or get a new panel for around
morph Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 After all a clean of the PIR's and a new battery is an easy thing to do and does not cost much, unless the installer does it then it would be expensive judging by the price he charged to fit a basic new panel using the existing 6 core. Theres more to servicing than that and you not only paying for what an installer does on the day. Nobody works for nothing and remember its easy to moan about the price after it was done!! Your inlaws should have queried the price at the time and again your not just paying for the panel and the time to install it.

I know they should have queried the price, I said just that, but they had no clue of how much it should cost until I told them what the parts cost. also lets face it there ain't a lot to servicing a home burglar alarm, no matter what installers try and make out, it's just an easy way of making extra cash on the whole, I recall a high percentage of installers saying just that when I used to sell systems to them. Guest Goatsmilk Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Dream on mate, theres more to it than you think. Well how come I have fitted and maintained my own alarms with no problems what so ever, I'm either super human or it's dead easy, I guess that latter. If there is more to this black art then please expand and justify the costs. I think we will just have to agree to disagree in the end though, as I'm not into falling out with someone I don't even know over a trivial matter. But thanks anyway for the original replies and advice. Take care Stu

I think not The kind of kit your using is very low end domestic stuff anyway.
