Pc-com And Veritas Excel

The PC-Com lead needs modifying to talk to the Excel panel.

To do this , remove the white cover of the pcb box on the PC-com lead.

You will then need to insert a 10k resistor in line with the Yellow lead that goes into IN1 (marked on the PCB).

Cut the yellow lead around mid point, solder the resistor in and that's the job done.

You will now be able to connect to the Excel without it going into Tamper.

Nice one.

Its a shame texecom couldnt do that. They could have it inbuilt into a switch on the pcb cover so as to allow the lead to work as normal for other panels.

I think school boy error on their behalf.

I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.

The above only applies to the usb lead, there is no problem with the serial port lead.

Also the usb lead seems to make the laptop 'hang' for about 30-60 seconds when you connect it to the panel.

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

He mentioned PC-Com though. Someone's confused somewhere. :hmm:

That's because USB and Satan are one and that's why I use the PC-Com lead. :)

Just slightly off topic when connecting my office computer to a premier 24 through a com300 i couldnt get a connection at all, so i got a new internal modem from maplins that said it was an all hardware modem and not software and should work with everything.

I cant remember exactly what happened but couldnt get that to connect i think it also done some weird things to my computer. Anyway installed old modem but found that the pci slot was 'blown' nothing would work in it so installed it in the next pci slot but had then somehow lost the software/ driver for it so i installed some other driver for it.

I can now connect to the panel with the old modem/ new driver but the connection is cut within a few seconds if i dont press the receive data button then it will cut off as soon as it has done that.

Any ideas?

Ive tried adjusting the idle times but no difference.

I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.

The problem I had was with the serial lead Texcom have supplied me with a modified lead.

Ive never had a problem with the serial lead, but had the exact same problem with the USB one.

I have also had the 'blank RKP' problem with an Excel panel and a USB-Com lead.

Interestingly, the USB lead worked with the RKP (and nothing else) connected to the panel but it caused an alarm combined with a blanked RKP when connected to the fully loaded panel (4xPrestige QDs, 1xPrestige DT, 1xOH/4W, 1xLCD RKP 3, 1xTexecom Speech & Text Dialler, 1xOdyssey 3, 1xExtra Speaker) :hmm:

The jolly helpful chaps at Texecom sorted me out with a replacement lead, this time a PC-Com, with a pre-installed 18k resistor ( :!: yes you did read that correctly), which works perfectly.

I haven't had the time to see if the USB version will work with a similar resistor. ;)

Edwin The Elf.

From my experince, you need an external powered modem.... nothing else seems to work, but with the external one I never have any problem.
