Adam, 19, Lincoln

In more detail: Finished school last year with A levels, had planned to get an apprenticeship to train as a sparky, unfortunaly due to the rareity of them it didn't happen  , still, looking at going to college next year to do C+G 2330, and then get some onsite experience by offering to work free of charge and go from there.

Anyway, I'm here because this industry interests me as well, I guess eventually it would be nice to work for a company that did both alarms and electrics, but if I had to pick one, its electrics I really want to train for and get into.

Oh, and I might be seeking a bit of DIY advice about the alarm at home :P

Welcome Adam, Have a good look around, there's plenty to read here and some good passionate debate :)

Yeah, I was like that once!

It soon wears off :fear:

Given the choice of lugging armoured cable around a factory or installing 8 core, I'd rather stick to the 8 core. B)

Anyway Lurch, when even 8 core gets too much for you to install, you can always move to service.

Service Engineer and all round nice bloke :-)

Hi Adam

I always thought electronics was more interesting, at the time (everything was black and white back then) electrics was just something you plugged the clever stuff into.

Don't worry, it's already in the long term plan. ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome, electronics is pretty much a hobby interest only for me, don't think I could ever do something like electronics design for a living, I like to be able to put things like that on the back burner for months on end, think otherwise I would go mad, lol

Electrics is for me because it strikes the right balence of needing thinking, but not too much most of the time, is a trade, that is there is a skilled element to it, something to take pride in, I'm also the sort of person who gains satisfaction from striving to be one of the best in what I do, if I went into something ungodly complicated then I'm probably not intelligent enough to get to the anywhere near the top, lol

Well thats the best I can put it in words and it at least makes more sense than "thats what my heart is telling me to do"

i never wanted to be a spark but when i did i loved it for about two years, then i got fed up doing rewires.

I'm happy doing what i do now.

Serve your time as an electrician and see how you feel. It's an excellent base to train for other things.
