You can get IP cameras using a standard RJ45 network connection and can record onto a hard drive, but these are more in the region of

Can you give us a bit more detail about what your requirements are? e.g. what areas you are trying to look at; indoors; outdoors? Also, why are you looking at a PC based setup?

I am hoping to get a couple of cctv cameras that can link and record onto PC for outdoor use back garden got a sodium flood light and 500 watt halogen over back door so very good light conditions front not so bright just porch light.
