hi all

done an install this week ,only an audible only system but the surveyor never speced for a pir in the front room which is highly accesible through the large opening windows and no door contact instead a pir in the hall.

what do you think

cost cutting?

who knows

Seems to me that either the surveyor didn't think it required protection,as a pir in the hall will stop movement through the property(which to me would be strange)or the customer could have kept asking do i really need this so as to get the price down.Did the person you fitted the alarm to say anything or were they happy.

the lady was not bothered but when her bloke come in he was concerned as to why thier was no protection in the lounge

but the hall pir will most definately not pick up movement in the lounge.

I think that the surveyor has just done the survey through the letter box.

and on the side of cost cutting i would have swapped the pir in the hall to a smc on the front door and stick a pir in the lounge.

I agree with you i would have dome the same depending on the house ,but to me rule of thumb is front and back doors high value area(usually lounge) and any through routes also if there are a flat roof ie garage or extension i'd stick either vipers on the windows or a pir on upper hallway. Then theres no problem if the place gets screwed and the alarm wasn't triggered.

Thought systems to bs could not use electronic devices to set system is this the same for new European standards or was system not given conformity certificate

My next door neighbours system is the same as that one no PIR in lounge just in Hall , Kitchen and landing. I am no proffesional installer/surveyor but common knowledge is that the first place a burglar looks is the master bedroom for jewelry and cash this is why my safe is bolted to the kitchen wall in a cupboard. and the living room for electrical equipment however its the same has the house next door if a burglar/intruder :ninja: gained access through the living room window probbably not possible during the day as passers by ect. but at night he will have everything out without triggering the system. While the occupants where asleep they would come down in the morning pretty scared to find that there home has been violated and that the alarm failed to sound and you could say that a PIR was not fitted they are going to be a little mad :ranting: at you. Like my system i said to my installer i would like to have a PIR fitted in the hall/landing and lounge but he said what about the kitchen/dining area i said thats where i keep my dogs he said he needed to fit a sensor in there as most breakins happen through the back so he installed a pet sensor for the same price as a standard detector one normal in living room and one on landing and door contact on front door. My next door neighbours house does not even have a contact on front door i also followed the wire from the panic button down the wall stapled to the floor inderneath bedroom door onto landing down stairs around front door to the panel. GREAT install :P

i have had a chat with another engineer and he said its due to competetion in the area and costcutter as well ,but at the end of the day theirs no point having a intruder alarm that does nt cover the main areas of access in the house ,i mean whats the extra cost for another P.I.R next to nothing .

but i `m sure the customer will be most happy if the place gets robbed you know who there going to blame........................
