Guest timomer Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Hi all, I have had a good look to try and find what I need, but I am starting to think a product like this does not exist. I am getting a alarm system installed in my new house, what I want is if the alarm is set off some sort of notification can be sent to my computer from there I can do whatever I want. So I need some sort of hardware to notify the computer by standard TCP and some sort of software that picks up that notification. My friend doing the install is going to see if there is such a product and im having a look myself and found this site. I can
Brian c Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Most of the major panel manufacturers have a TCP/IP module that will integrate with their system and do what you ask. You may get better results from a professional installer? If you don't know......ask.
Nova-Security Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Is the computer in the same house as the alarm ? What happens if your not sat at your computer ? Would a text message to your mobile be better ? www.nova-security.co.uk www.nsiapproved.co.uk No PMs please unless i know you or you are using this board with your proper name.

Guest timomer Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Hi, sorry for taking so long to reply. I have a home server that will be attached to a UPS unit locked in the loft. Yes sending a text will be one thing i will get the computer to do along with anything else I can think of ) Brian c, I have heard about the TCPIP modules, but i thought they would only contact to a 3rd party alarm monitoring company. My friend is a professional alarm installer, he is investigating this as well for me but I would also like to know what

Guest timomer Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Hi Nova-Security, Not sure what panel I will be using yet, but the manufactures will be Scantronic or Adcom. So can I use any tcpip adapter and plug it in to my own network? How do you communicate to them, using SNMP? I did some more searching on the internet and found this company http://www.youralarm.com/, the "Alarm Panel Adapter" is just what I need, but to communicate with my network not theirs. -Tim

(TCP/) (ie. guardall uses UDP instead of TCP) IP - modules are often manufacturer spesific and are designed to communicate only with IP alarm receivers and/or up/download programming software (which mostly are not available for public). some panel manufacturers which do not have ip - modules available still have RS232 adapters built in. to IP enable these panels you can use simple RS232-IP terminal. we build our own for
Guest timomer Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Hi georgahti, I am looking at using nagios as well ) Yes, i was reading some documents that say on some alarm panels notifications are sent by an RS232 adapter on the panel - so all you have to do is connect a device to the RS232 adapter to pickup events. So, if i buy a product like this http://www.modtronix.com/product_info.php?...products_id=102 and wire it into the RS232 adapter on the alarm all i have to do is try and work out what RS232 signals mean what. Also take a look under "Application Notes and Source Code" at "An SNMP Agent for the Microchip TCP/IP Stack", could be what you are looking for georgahti. Am i crazy? Or could the above work? ) -Tim
