Good quality, very reliable equipment with a good range of features. Only you can decide if you are capable of fitting it. The programming options are quite extensive and some people struggle with them, but if you aren't too fussy, you can fit it and leave it working on factory default settings without doing any programming.

Have you had any quotes for a proffessionally fitted system? If not, it might be worth gatting some.... a proffessionally fitted alarm is almost always better, and the cost could be offset by a reduction in your insurance

Paul

Would the system come with the installer manual if bought form a security website (shopping site)

Plus I have a limited budget and so as im uninsured saving the cost may be a good option.

Do you think that that price (inclusive of VAT) is a good one or could you recommend any other sites for finding such kits?

Is there any way of adding two sets of external sounders that are live (ie no dummy)to the vr8+ control pannel as this would give a louder , wider sound distrubution, p.s can i place additional sounders in the external odessey 3 or 1 casings to make the alarm have more effect. Any suggestions on loud alarms would be great as the place i live in sometimes has a high background noise.

Do you knowthe total amount of Odyssey3 Boxes (twin piezo siren) would be safe on the r8+,plus roughly do you know of any good links for sirens and sounders, thanks in advance

Of course you can add more sounders to the system, the wiring instructions for this arrangement will be present in the manual for the Odyssey sounder. However, you must consider the overall current consumption of the alarms.

These external sounders have two modes of operation, when operating in alarm mode (i.e. making noise) they draw a considerable amount of current, and you can either have this taken from the 12v supply feeding it (read alarm panel or power supply) or from the internal battery. The latter option makes the alarm quieter, but allows more sounders to be added to a system, the first option would require the provision of an additional power supply.

The Full Odyssey sounders already have two transducers in them, it is only the "E" versions that have one. Depending on the amount of noise required, I believe that a Master Blaster type siren (mains powered, relay switched) could be added, but would probably not be applicable for a domestic environment.

Why the requirement for so much noise? If the property value/contents is such that a response is demanded, I would be considering a professionally installed, and remotely monitored alarm. A cheaper option would be to add a voice dialler or SMS compatible digicom to the panel to alert you (or someone else) on a phone.

Andrew

EDIT: - Having seen rjbsec getting in there first, I will add that you probably shouldn't string more than two sirens onto the R8+, one in SAB and one in SCB mode, depending upon any other load on the power supply. Given the fairly low cost of an additional PSU (and the larger battery capacity), it may be preferable to buy one, or use a better panel in the first place.

Veritas R8+ PSU = 1Amp output

Full odyssey 1/2/3 = 545ma in alarm mode + strobe

Are Master Blaster's illegal to have have sounding for 20 mins under regs?

Are Master Blaster's illegal to have have sounding for 20 mins under regs?

Any sounders of any variety should ideally be limited to 20 minutes maximum.

Thanks for the master blaster info, i was just wondering how i can make the alarm that bit more noticeable to someone walking down the street as often normal sounders are just ignored or have a single tone and are drained out, any help?
