So overall, A veritas r8+ with a single odyssey 3 siren(twin piezo) and no monitoring (limited budget) seems the way to go.Does anyone know the sound that the RKP gives out or is there an option to add an internal sounder to let the burgular know the alarm is fully activating.

I would dissagree with Antinode. In a residential premises, it is extremely unusual for an intruder to stay once the alarm sounds. It is not in his interest to remain and risk being caught. Communication can be useful, but noise at the house is the most important thing.

I would tend to agree with the sentiment of your post, in that most opportunist intruders would be scared off by an alarm triggering, however, this is still mainly conjecture and we don't know for sure. It all depends on a number of factors: the intruder himself, type of property and value/portability of contents, location of property and escape routes plus a few things I don't want to mention in the public area. I would always opt for monitoring myself, even if it was just a digi. Of course monitoring does have its downsides, but at least you are guaranteed some kind of response to make sure that the property is physically re-secured even if the perpetrators are'nt caught on site, which I'm sure we all know of at least a few instances of.

mikeyv1: You could fit an extension speaker inside that will generate louder versions of the keypad alarm sounds. The Veritas actually has a decent internal sounder of its own.

So along with external sounder and possibly an internal sounder, what is the minimal type of monitoring required would gaurantee a police or some security force to be dispatched, any links to sites about such services or any other advice would be much appreciated!

To guarantee a police response, you will need a professionally fitted alarm system, maintained regularly by a certified company, and with appropriate communication and monitoring (and associated fees).

You will not be able to obtain a police response otherwise without someone physically visiting the premises, or for instance, a neighbour reporting something (as stated above in this thread).

If you need a response, you will HAVE to have a professionally installed system.

I'm also thinking o installing the Veritas 8+ or veritas excel with odessy 3. The Excel has a communicator interface - I assume I still have to get a communicator to go with this? My supplier recommends a scantronic 9650, but posts on this site have indicated possible problems with these. Basically can someone recommend a good system for a bog-standard 3 bed semi. 8 zones, 2 part settings and a communicator would suit me.

Many thanks in advance.
