Guest Muhunthan Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 Colin I do understand all you says, and the battery I brought from Maplins is YUASA. If Maplins can able to sell at £17.99 and make a profit from that, why can't other people sell and make the same profit. Thanks
morph Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 Simple, some companies are greedier than others. But Maplins are able to buy in bulk, so there buy price is cheaper. If you buy a loaf of bread at the supermarket, and then buy one at the local corner shop. Which is cheaper? (its all down to volume) Anyway at least you got decent battery, did you change the one in the bellbox also, or are you waiting till 2 in the morning one day to change it. Colin.
Guest dale Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 Muhunthan: I also do computer consultancy but I do charge my customers more than I pay for the parts (this is something I learnt on a small business course) as I have taken the time and effort to find the cheapest and best suppliers and build systems that are highly reliable. Simply charging customers for parts at cost and a labour charge will not cover your overheads - especially when one goes wrong and it costs you money to fix it. My customers know I make money on the systems they purchase from me, and they are happy with this as I am still much cheaper than high street vendors and they get a good service from me. The point im trying to make is you need to make profit to survive, I could have loads of customers and charge them each a small ammount and work hard to make money, not give my customers a good service and give myself a bad reputation. Or I can have a few customers (like solicitors, GP surguries, MP's Constituency offices) give them an excellent service (at a premium) and have a good name. The man who works the most is the man who works for free. Dale
