Guest snafux Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Hi there, I bought an //.National Installer.// alarm system about a year ago now which I pay to have monitored. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have the monitoring transfered to another company or do I have to stay with //.National Installer.//? What are peoples opinion of //.National Installer.//'s monitoring service? And if I can change, what would be a good company to look at? Thanks for everyones time in reading this and replying (hopefully!)
morph Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Yes you could change, any SSIB or NSI approved company will be able to look after your alarm. But if your thinking it will be cheaper to go to another company, it is unlikely to be.

Depends on the contract really, which you read fully before signing I hope? Thanks for everyones time in reading this and replying (hopefully!) Don't worry, you should get a few! Trade Member
Guest snafux Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Depends on the contract really, which you read fully before signing I hope?Don't worry, you should get a few! Signed a 12 month contract, which I paid up front. Before I considered 'shopping around' I just needed to know if it was possible to change purely on a cost basis and also if it was worth while. I'm guessing I would have to pay for the alarm to be surveyed or something as well as paying a fee to the police again.
Guest snafux Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 i deal with a few..there all the same..some answer quicker tham some but on another day its reversed..at the end of the day they all contact keyholders and send the police etc...cost is about the same..unless you have hundreds of sites to transfer your not gonna save much... Hundreds of sites? I guess that excludes me lol. Just my house I'm afraid, plus maybe a holiday cottage in the lakes if my numbers come up )
morph Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 you own the urn so it goes with you..the system may not...you can choose which arc you want but the maintaining co might not want to have you unless you go with their chosen arc..like ive said if you have hundreds of sites you choose the rules..otherwise you might find it hard to pick and choose arcs and maintainer.. The end user does not own the URN, it is a reference number that belongs to the Police authority and can be cancelled by them at any time, same as it can be cancelled by the existing alarm company on cessation of a contract/loss.
morph Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 under pd6662 the end user does own the urn hence the end users payment to the police..of course they can lose that urn due to false alarms etc..but the urn follows the customer not the system You are wrong, I would suggest that you consult with your local force administrator for clarification, the payment is simply an administration fee and URN's are issued against a system not an individual.
bellman Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 no...if a customer has a system in a premises and moves their urn goes with them,a new system may be required yes---,new owner then applies for a urn for said premises the URN is not transferable between premises. (not in my local area anyway) Regards Bellman Service Engineer and all round nice bloke ) The views above are mine and NOT those of my employer.
