Guest Jeffw
Hi I currently have the above topic title installed in my property, and with the new EN reg's am considering should I upgrade it? So far, its been fine I have had this panel in 3 properties which has come with me and over the years have only updated the PIR's to Reflex's and Impacs on the windows etc., my thinking the panels only as good as what the senosrs attached to it!! I have frequently (well every 2 months) tested the zone's through walk through, checked the AUX, SCB and battery volts and drop checked the battery, only changed that once over ten years, as it failed the drop test I done. So to me it seems sound at present but should I Upgrade? If I do it will be a DIY as (well I'm a programmer and as these are basic NC or NO circuits) I can grasp the fundamentals pretty well. So far after 10 years of my own installs using this solo Advantage zero F/A's And currently its fine, AUX, Battery, SCB etc., passives fine but is it time to upgrade this puppy or hold onto it? and if I do or its recommend what do you recommend? any advice welcome Regards Jeff
Guest RICHL
I wouldnt worry about EN as your alarm probably never complied with BS! If you want to change it then change it - there are definately far better control panels available.

Well theres my problem 1) did it conform? I have no idea, I am not the expert (this is the DIY area) 2) Better panels! how and why please explain, as if a panel does what it does, then should I have to upgrade? mine works fine - as you say wouldn't worry about EN. Bascially from what I gauge from this is, if your panels fine, f..k EN regs and if your happy your happy, but what about your insurance company? I havn't heard from these yet. If I get burgled and my panel doesn't conform am I insured? I havn't checked my policy as its big, why I came here. So should I upgrade or not Bear in mind I do know about Grade 1/2/3/4 and Level 1/2/3/4 sensors... so far (with the exception of the panel) I am at level 2 on sensors and I think or hope grade 2x on this panel....!!!!!! please be specific under the above new criteria which I didn't mention prior (my falult I know) but it is an important issue. regard Jeff
ranger
checked the AUX, SCB and battery volts and drop checked the batteryAnd currently its fine, AUX, Battery, SCB etc., Why is your bell set to SCB?? If you only have one then why not have it as SAB? If you want to change it then change it - there are definately far better control panels available. Ranger The above is my personal opinion and not that of my employer or anyone else.

Basically if you install / upgrade the panel yourself then the EN regs don't apply as it's classed as a DIY install as for what your insurance company might say / do I can't say but they might bump your premiums up.. You know the grades and how the grading system works. If you want the regs to apply and the insurance company not to bump up the premium I would suggest you either post your location here or look up a few local alarm companies and get quotes from them for supplying a new Alarm system as I doubt many would take over a DIY system even although by the looks of things you've properly maintained the system. I hope this helps you out. Intruder / CCTV / Access Control Technical Support Personal Subscriber to the "K.I.S.S" principle, that's Keep It Simple Stupid, are you?
