Extra Psu For Alarm???

Recommended Posts

If your alarm system is anything like proportional to your CCTV installation I would think an additional psu would be a sound investment.

The alarm has the following:

7x PIR's

3x Door Contacts

2x Smoke Sensors

1x Heat Sensors

2x panic Buttons

2x Keypads

Is that alot?

On the surface, no.

The TS900 has a 1.5amp power supply - what is the current drawn by the components?

Panel 300ma in alarm ....... and so on.

I would be very surprised if it couldn't suply all the power and have a good bit left over - ask your installer for more detail as to why it is required. The panel doesn't conform to EN standards so that cannot be the issue.

Agreed. Sounds like it should be drawing no more than 1Amp, there shouldn't really be any need for another PSU.

If you don't know......ask.

Hi All,

My engineer has fitted a Menvier TS900 which I supplied but now wished for me to provide him with additional power supply, not sure why an additional power supply is required? He tells me as there is a lot of power being used by all the zones and the fact that I also have cctv installed :hmm:

So is the system not working at the moment? How did the the situation arise that the system needs an additional PSU?

How old is the TS900?

Wouldn't make that much difference.

Don't "confront" your engineer, ask him his reasons for suggesting it - they may be valid, not one of us here has seen the installation in question.

The only thing to be harmed by an additonal psu is your pocket!

As I said early the psu is not powering any CCTV equip (as these have there own psu's).

Im not trying to catch anyone out, just want some more opnions and making sure the install is upto standard...Im sure if there isnt anything to hide the engineer wouldnt mind telling me and it gives me a better understanding as to why costs have gone up (as a result of an extra psu).

Its installers like you that let the side down, im hope your not like that to your customers...

Im just making sure everything is as good as it can be and meeting all standards...sorry if this annoys you...

The system is working, the panel is new. During the install he suggested that I add the extra psu as for all the components we have on the panel.
