Guest Rutger Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Hello all, first post here so please be gentle I have acquired a 2nd user Menvier TS700 panel, keypad, 5 PIR's, 2 panic buttons, internal sounder, a new Texecom Odyssey 3e and two sets of door contacts (also new). I don't profess to be experienced in another similar field to alarm installations so I am not trying to impress or annoy the experts on here. However I am posting here as I realise there is a lot of expert information and advice available. Firstly, I paid nothing for the system listed above; it was removed as a working system from a renovation and put in a box which is now in my garage. Can I reasonably expect to install this in my house on new wiring and have a decent enough system after carefully cleaning PIR's etc and replacing the battery. I mean would I not be better off going for a new panel/keypad/PIR's and at least have a fully up to date system? Or is the TS700 quite reliable and enough for my needs, although a bit old? I could conceivably bin the TS 700 and go for new kit and possibly pay for someone to install it, but I fancy the challenge of installing and configuring my own system that I happened to pick up for nothing. Any advice would be gladly accepted. Thank you all in advance. P.S. It takes a while to read pretty much every DIY post on this board. I thought I would post my question as it wasn't answered in any other!
ranger Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Hello there. The menvier range is more than capable of doing what you require. The TS700, although as you say, is old, it does what it is intended to do. If you are up for the challenge, as you say, then i would say fit the system. Although, make sure you read up plenty about past DIYs and to make sure you install safely. Also, bear in mind that your system will not comply to the current regulations, but, if it protects your home and your happy with it then fair enough. One thing i will say tho is do not buy new equipment and expect any old installer to install it for you as most like to use the kit they are familiar with and we all have our own reasons for using the kit we use. If you do not decide to DIY, then contact a few local companys and ask them about their equipment and get a few quotes. If you do go ahead and install the panel, i will be happy to help you with any questions or problems, just drop me a PM. Hope this helps, Regards, Ranger The above is my personal opinion and not that of my employer or anyone else.
Guest Rutger Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Many, many thanks for your swift reply ranger. I am truly impressed at the willingness of you guys to help a novice such as myself! If I did have any queries with my installation would it not be better for everyone else to post them on the board rather than a PM. Don't get me wrong, personal service would be a godsend but surely everyone else would benfit from posting on the forum? Don't really want to outstay my welcome for one member's personal inbox either should it not go smoothly!
Guest ALSEC Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Have used Menvier for years - they were the panels I started on - the 700 is OK for what you need - they are reliable and there are plenty of them still chugging away out there..
ranger Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Indeed you are right, it would be best for your advice to come from the main forum but what i was simply offering was if you were to need some quick advice/help then PM me as i will normally check my emails frequently and am here if you need help. All the best, Ranger EDIT: they are reliable and there are plenty of them still chugging away out there Indeed there is. I think they are very reliable, a great panel. Been using Galaxy for years now tho. The above is my personal opinion and not that of my employer or anyone else.
antinode Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Yes, the Meniver stuff is good quality even if the TS 700 is a little old, just make sure it all works before you go to the trouble of installing it. Being sat in a garage for god knows how long won't have done it any good! I would probably buy some new PIR's unless the ones you have are good (what make/model are the ones you have?) and in decent conditon. They're cheap enough. Trade Member
Guest Rutger Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Hi guys, I have just got one of the PIR's out from the box in the garage and carefully taken the cover off. There are no markings on the PCB inside the detector although on the back of the PCB there is a small sticker with Warranty June 1997 and Colt Lens 1 underneath. On the front plastic cover there are four screws holding the lens in and stamped on that is PYRONIX LTD COLT. Does that provide a clue? I have no pets so I don't need anything fancy just PIR's that will keep an eye on the place. Do these need replacing? Oh and there are two resistors (Gold Red Red Red and Gold Red Maroon Yellow) screwed into the connector block where wires are fixed. Does that mean we are dealing with DEOL [scratches head and tried to remember terminology]?????

Them be Pyronix Colt PIRs They're cheap and pretty nasty aswell if you ask me but they will work OK, just be careful where you position them, and keep the Pulse Count jumper on 2. Yes, we are dealing with "Fully Supervised Loop" wiring, or DEOL. Half the job has been done for you as the resistors are there, so it should be fairly simple to work out where to connect the wires Trade Member
Guest Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Watch the oddesy bell with that panel. i have found a problem with the M750/800`s, they cannot handle the bells initial power consumption. Menvier denied this as did texacom, then hey presto Menvier did a sofware change. Hehehehehe, like they didnt know.
