Guest Blan Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 First post on here, Whats the best technique for removing old rusted screws on old style bell boxes ? Just doing a repair on an Optima Xm, Control Unit battery dead, probably about 10 years old, charging circuit looks OK. No Bell sounder when tested, looks like its either the cable to the Bell or the Bell itself. I want to remove the bell box cover without damaging the case but the screw is rusted. I know its probably the battery in the bell box but I don't want to damage it if it turns out to be Ok. All wires buried by the way Thanks for any input
Guest Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 plastic sort with a roofing bolt in it? turn anticlock wise it will strip the theard off, bodge with plastic wall plug or replace bolt with self tapper of suitable size. for what it costs just replace the whole thing.
Monteey Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Id personally change the bell for a new unit, if its been in 10 years it going to be looking pretty shabby and if it isnt self sounding then is it really worth trying to fix it. Guest Blan Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Thanks chaps The current bellbox is not that unsightly maybe ten years was a bit of bad guess I've got the new bellbox, the reasonably priced Texecom Odysey 3E fitting it tommorrow. Just out of interest guys, what low end domestic install panel would you choose. I have fitted both the Texecom Veritas and Accenta mini G3 Although I thought the Veritas was a better alarm, the RKP seems to big, the buttons are welcomed by grannys and the blind. The Accenta does its job and the RKP is quite neat too. But this feels like a DIY install I know Texecom do some nioce RKP's but the prices are quite steep. Whats your view ? Anyway thanks for the advice
Guest Blan Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Just looked at it, and yeah, it looks the bees I've got a install to do next week I think I'll give it a whirl. Just one question, is it compatible with ADE informa speech dialler ? I know the informa has its problems but I've got one that I need to use. Quite looking forward to fitting the Excel, Texecom feel that much more proffesional.
Guest Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 I'd definitely swerve the Informa if at all possible. A SD2 or Texecom Speech Dialler would be far far better if it has to have a speech dialler. Pretty much any speech dialler should be comapatible with pretty much any panel. Most of them just require some form of 12V switched supply which is available from most panels in one form or another. But more specifically, the Informa will work with an R8\Excel.
Alexg Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 I swear by Texecom panels, high quality, look good & my favorite part about them is there a dodle to program which is what you want after long day running about installing the thing...yes the KP is a little large, but it all hides away under the flap & I think it looks smart. Only thing I don't like about the control panel is the connector block for the mains...its right there by the low voltage cables, I'd prefer to see it down the in bottom left, right out the way of the LV stuff.
