Optima Xl6 - Started To Beep When Alarm Was Off....

Hi There,

I'm hoping someone can help me. I've an Optima XL6 alarm. The alarm was off, but it started to beep for some reason. The beeping was only coming from the mainbox (terminal?). I pressed the reset, but that didn't do anything. So, then I entered the code and it appeared to stop. However, I noticed it was then set from DAY mode to TAMPER. I pressed the reset and that changed it back to DAY.

I suspected that this was indicating some kind of fault, but was puzzled as to what exactly. Then, I noticed that one of the sensors no longer blinks with a red light, when approached. So, I suspect there is something wrong with the sensor.....

Does this usually just mean a battery needs replacing ? Or an Engineer is required?

Thanks very much.

cheers

Sue.

PS: I searched the manual and the website as best I could, but didn't find an answer. :(

Do any of the PIRs show the red light now?

Reason I ask is that a fuse may have blown inside the panel.

If it was showing tamper then there is a problem with either the panel lid, bellbox lid, or one of the PIR lids not being shut, there could be a break in a cable somewhere causing a tamper fault - allbeit intermitent if it reset.

I would recommend getting someone in to check the system over for you.

Also have you had any work done in the house recently, i.e carpets fitted or anything, as cables may have been damaged perhaps - just a thought.

Hi,

Thanks very much for your reply.

I'm not sure what a PIR is, so can't answer that. The only red light showing on the box is for power. There are no lights showing on any of the zones. The DAY is green. The number pad etc is lite up as usual. The sensor mentioned previously still doesn't blink. No work done in the house.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks again.

cheers

Sue.

PIR = thing ion the corner of the room that once blinked. ;)

Do any of the other PIR's still blink?

Could still be a fuse gone or intermittent fault with a cable somewhere.

Thanks Stuart, sometimes another way of phrasing things gets a better result LOL

Ahh, I see....that thingymagig... Yes, the others do blink. I just noticed this one that appears to have stopped blinking... This is the first time such a thing has occured in 6 years...

I guess the next step is to call an Engineer. Thanks very much.

Hi All,

Well, the original PIR started to "blink" again. But, the next day, the alarm on the outside of the house went off. It was set in TAMPER mode and didn't allow keypad entry. Eventually the alarm stopped, but was concerned it was going to go off again....

Managed to get hold of Chubb who recommended getting our local electrician out to switch off the alarm....A friend who had the same trouble helped and so now the front panel is off, battery disconnected and main fuse loosened. I know there is mains power to the box and so will not be touching any cables etc.

I've rung a couple of places and they are quoting
