cjd Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 hi, hope someone can help. I've got a galaxy 60 panel and have currently got 2 keypads on it (bothe the old modern security systems type.) i want to add another RKP but for some unknown reason to me it won't work. The new RKP will flash *'s, but then the other 2 RKP's dont respond to anything i,e, i cant put any codes it etc. I've just upraded from version 1.?? to version 2.10, but it hasnt made any difference. as soon as i connect the new RKP to the power supply the other 2 start bleeping radomly and will not respond - until i disconnect the new one i want to add. I've tried another keypad, but it doesnt do anything. Do i need a new power supply that will allow me to add this RKP, or do i need to alter something on the main PCB? Help would be appreciated. Thanks
whistle Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Have you addressed it correctley ? Is it an old Thorn one?
cjd Posted July 23, 2006 Author Posted July 23, 2006 Have you addressed it correctley ?Is it an old Thorn one? it's not and old thorn one, i have addressed it correctly changed the selector switch from "0" to "2" as "0" & "1" are the other 2 keypads.
Brian c Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 How have you wired it? If it is at the end of the line (connected to the last RKP) you need to put the EOL resistor across A+B of the last RKP. (new one) There may be a compatibilty issue with the RKP's but I'm not too sure of that. If you don't know......ask.

Brian c Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I think you're describing that you have 'starred' off the data line, which is not recommended. The data should be wired in a daisy chain, with the EOL connected to the last in line. You can use the same power supply for all 3 RKP's, depending on the length of the runs.(Volt Drop) If you do need another power supply, you should common the negs. If you don't know......ask.

If I recall correctly Bri you can star off the data line but you must fit a 680 ohm resistor on each keypad that is starred. Like you say though, it's not the best way to do it. Trade Member

You can star off the line from the panel not a RKP and the 680 resistor should be cut in the panel and one fitted to each RKP, like you say. thanks for that, i'll have to do some rewiring then!! is it not acceptable to star out - would it case problems, or does it make things easier if their daisychained Yes, it causes problems like ***** displayed on RKP! If you don't know......ask.
Guest Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 doesn't the resistor size vary according the amount of keypads (if star network)?
