Psu Faulty Or Something Else?

Hi guys - it's me again!! (groans!!) Wonder if someone can help at all. I've a galaxy 60 panel, and as most know experienced some difficulty adding RKP's. Thats been sorted now thank goodness. But now i think there's a fault with the PSU. I had to alter the cable run to a keypad so I turned off the system did what i had to do and the powered back up, but there was no power to the keypads or the PIR's on the system. checked all the fuses and they're all ok. checked the AUX outputs and there is nothing - no voltage at all, however on the one "+" and "-" that's got the pic of a telephone (i assume that's for comms board) there's about 12 - 13 volts accross it. There's also power to the main board- not sure where to go from here. Is the PSU board faulty or is there somehting else i've overlooked??

Did you check the fuses?

Hi Peter. Yes i've check the fuses, the ones on the board and also the supply - all are ok. in fact I changed the ones for the aux supply and battery on for new ones. Just to mention they're both 1 amp if that's any assistance.

also check to see if there is a short between the + and 0V in your wiring

fuse are fine. I disconnected all the wires from the aux supplies and put a meter on them without anything connected - no voltage at all, like i said only on the one that's got a telphone pic next to it. nothing on the others1

Have you checked for shorts on the AUX line to your detectors and keypads etc, as sparky83 says? What value were the fuses you removed and replaced? 1 amp aswell? Make sure you're not pulling too much current off that output (you did check the current consumption when you commisioned it?). You may have just tipped it over the edge (unlikely but possible) and blown the output circuit. Turn off the mains and take the battery off, remove the PSU board and check for any burn marks or blown traces. I've seen 2 Galaxy 16's with blown traces to the AUX fuse holder.

The output with the phone symbol is unfused, so don't be tempted to use that until you have traced the fault.

like i said, i disconnected the detectors & keypads and also the main board and tested the PSU board with nothing on lit - and no output voltage. I've taken then battery off etc and checked the back of the pcb, can't see any burn marks around the fuse holders, but there is a "brownish" tint on one or two of the solder connections - if you can imagine holding solder iron on a component your soldering for too long and the solder gets too hot it looks like that! (sorry about the poor description!!). It's only got two PIR's and 3 rkps'. Fuses i relaced are also 1 amp. I have a horrible feeling that the PSU board is shot to bits. If so any ideas where i can get another??

I remember getting a batch of boards where the fuse holder themselves had no spring tension in them causing intermitent breakes in the supply to kepads etc. They looked ok and measured ok but the slightest vibration on or near the board caused havoc.

Practice in the morning, practice at night. Practice in the evening, until you get it right.

Only make sure you are practising in the right way at the right time for it.

If your getting 12 volts for the dedicated comms power, then the psu must be regulating OK, possibly then a blown track, dodgy fuse and or dodgy fuse holder maybe, as suggested in the replies above.

ok, thanks for that, your post and the previous help me alot. Now that's its been mentioned, the fuse holder for the aux supply is a bit on the "dodgy" side and is becoming loose. I'll check that to see if that's the cause of it. If it's not that then i assume that's its like you said about a blown track and then i guess i need a new PCB? Thanks for your help, will keep you updated.
