Hello everyone

I have a scantronic 9452, which was already in the house when I bought it last year. I have never used the alarm, although I do have the user code, and have tested the panic button. At some point I really should start using it properly.

However... one night last week, at 4am  , the alarm sounded, and the tamper light was lit up. This happened again on monday - when I got home from work the claxon was already doing its worst.

For now, all I want is to stop the thing going off in any circumstances. Is there an easy was to do this without disconnecting its power source (and therefore presumably rendering it unusable in future)

thanks in advance

Hi,

there is no other easy way to prevent the alarm from sounding. If you, can disconnect the mains power (there should be a fused spur close by the panel, withdraw the fuse) and then open the panel. The alarm will sound. Disconnect the battery by removing the red and black wires from the battery. The outside siren will now probably start but should stop after approx 1/2 hour (it may have it's own internal battery).

Your best bet is to now have the system serviced by a local company and take out an annual maintenance contract too. Assuming it is a "bells only" system this should not cost too much and saves any future worry :)

If you are not confident about carrying out the above, or cannot isolate the mains supply first, then go straight to a local alarm co.

Be careful disconnecting the power, depending on how old the external bell/sounder is, it may not have a cut off timer fitted and then it will ring till the battery runs flat.

Get a local company in first, get it serviced expect to pay £45-75 for the service, money well spent plus you will have someone to call if you ever have a serious problem.

Colin.

Chances are you've got a faulty battery!

Common fault on this panel, causes random tampers

Breff

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)
