breff Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 While we are on the subject of cable tracers, I got myself a new TDR a few weeks ago.link HERE. Couldn't believe how cheap they are now, they used to be over data.pdf The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct! (Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

bellman Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Should have got one of these Chris.I've made up some croc clip type adaptors and you can examine individual pairs while having a whole 8 core connected at once, it will tell you if you have any shorts between pairs or crossed cables as well. I've already got a pair tester for crosses, shorts and reversals. Also got a tone probe and inductor set, The TDR just completes the diagnostic kit nicely. I've used them for many years now and would be lost without one. Shows many faults not just distance to short or open, it will also detect splices, bridge taps, split / resplits, wet joints, water ingress along cable length, frayed connections and taps. That fluke looks like a nice piece of kit though, perhaps i'll get myself one for xmas. Regards Bellman Service Engineer and all round nice bloke ) The views above are mine and NOT those of my employer.

bellman Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 hi bellman, please do a write up on it once you've had a play, especially on how clear the display is, i like many where glasses and small characters can be hard to read. regs alan Not a lot to write, display is nice and clear, it has variable contrast so you can adjust it to suit. It's also backlit so easy to read in dark cupboards and the like. It does exactly what it says on the tin.
